Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Just read the reviews on the AML stuff, sounds really nice and I love that it started as a DIY project. Dammit, I think I’m starting to remember why I left the TOMB. . . Seriously through, I quit Facebook in like 2015 and never joined anything else. I occasionally browse through Reddit. But honestly...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Ex-pats coming home! I haven’t heard about these before. How do they sound? I ask because looks like you can buy the 1081 in kit form from them for about $666, which is the magic number. Edit: although looking at the build sheets, there are so many components so tightly packed together; seems like p...

Re: Saturation Tools and Tricks
I've dabbled with Saturn2, but tended to get overwhelmed by the options...I need to put some more time into this. I tend to prefer simple and effective plugins, apparently. Yeah, I actually demoed Saturn a while back and didn’t buy it. I thought it was too complicated and I ended up going with the ...

I haven’t heard of Kazrog Iron before, but I’m gonna demo it. $37 seems like a really good price.

Re: The bottom of the snare
That’s interesting. I tried reaper back in the day but I wasn’t computer literate enough to really get the most out of it at the time. I should revisit it.

Re: Saturation Tools and Tricks
I have a preset that Audiosiege made that is for the mix buss and split into L M H and gets into the M/S functionality and I sometimes use that. Holy hell, I didn’t even know it did M/S! Can you send me a screenshot of that preset or a link? I would love to play around with that a bit as a starting...

Re: Saturation Tools and Tricks
Heat is cool. The Black Box from PA I find really good on electric guitars to help them cut through. Particularly if the tone wasn’t that great to begin with. a little bit on a lead track is awesome. But I haven’t found it that good on anything else. Devil Loc has been my go to for years but even di...

Saturation Tools and Tricks
First of all, it’s awesome to be back at the TOMB. Hope I’m not blowing up all these threads. So I always used a little saturation on bass to help cut through on small speakers and for EFX. But I’ve been watching some vids with Jaycen Joshua and a few others, I was kind of shocked how much saturatio...

Re: What preamps are y'all liking these days?
Listening to the copper audio samples on Hairball’s site and I’m definitely going to build one. I used to have a 7th Circle N72 that I still miss. BUT while comparing I really fell in love with the Lola sound. I’ve always wanted a pair of super clean Hardy type pres so I’m gonna build one of those f...

Re: The bottom of the snare
“but once I take it away from the snare sound, I miss it.” Yeah this is the truth. There’s a lot of stuff that sounds like crap solo’d, but mute it from the mix and you miss it, you immediately know it’s gone. On a related note, in my search for a good tape Stop effect I can across wave factory plug...

Re: The bottom of the snare
Maybe someone can help us both! I always mic it, usually with a 57 or lately the little clip on Sen 609? or whatever. I try to get the same distance and angle as the 57 on top. Then I hate it, er I mean gate it. (I finally accepted Fabfilter as my personal digital savior), so I use the Fab gate and ...

Re: monitors
DYN LYD 48 with their 9S sub as I wasn't getting enough volume out of it when it went thru sonarworks. These replaced my B&W Matrix 805 with their sub (maybe ASW 2500? i'm forgetting the model). and they were powered by a Jim Williams modded Adcom 545. I still have them, actually have two pairs of ...

Re: monitors
Trodden, yeah these are the standard ones. He also makes a surround version that is shorter. They ain’t small, that’s for sure. Repositioning them sucked due to their size but they measure pretty flat in the room now. I have a small dip at 80hz I’m trying to address with some more treatment. Maybe s...
