Re: need help with monitoring during recording on fostex model 80
Inserts send and receive signal via the same cable, useful for patching in a piece of gear like a compressor. If you're using the inserts to output to your tape machine, then the signal's not coming back like it's supposed to. Try plugging the cables in halfway, that's a common trick to use inserts ...

Re: PC experts needed for upgrade quest
I've been advised that they are more powerful than current Intel and may handle processing for audio better. it's really doing to depend on which specific models you are comparing. Both could work just fine. this https://www.cpubenchmark.net/ is again an easy way to compare relative performance to ...

Re: PC experts needed for upgrade quest
Do you think that this motherboard looks problematic in some way? Nope! I actually have the next model up (Prime B550 Plus) and it's served me well so far. My only complaint is Asus' online resources and customer service suck. It's all either badly translated or unhelpful, and god help you if you h...

Re: PC experts needed for upgrade quest
Valid points - a few bits of info: - my RME is a 9652 which basically is taking optical in and out of a RADAR V into my Pc (cubase). I'm not planning on replacing the radar anytime soon. - I am using a 64 bit OS and DAW currently - There is a Asus mobo that is currently made and has a PCI slot and ...

Re: PC experts needed for upgrade quest
Are there any motherboard brands that are known to handle audio better? Any to avoid? Are you talking about the built-in I/O? Are you not using an external interface? Aside from that, I don't think the motherboard would really have any effect on audio. It's more about CPU and RAM. I could be wrong,...

Re: PC experts needed for upgrade quest
ADVICE: If this is living in your studio and not a machine room, don't skimp on the case and get a solid one, avoid the tempered glass side panels. My computer is totally silent EXCEPT that with the side panel on, it actually resonated like a drum and I could hear the drone of the power supply waxi...

Re: Vocal panning approaches
if it's just a double of the main vocal then I just usually keep it straight with the main and sneak it under. or maybe do that with a subtle harmony too. Sometimes this is the most effective, especially if you want a thick and lush sound. Panning has a tendency to make them sound too separated.

Re: anybody using SSD drives for data/sessions?
Nand, or Flash has to be "refreshed" and over time can lose the contents of a cell. (i.e., bit rot). when the drive is powered on, it's running things in the background to take care of this. vendors typically specify 1 month or 3 months for "data retention" at end of life. I believe that is also a ...

Re: anybody using SSD drives for data/sessions?
SSDs are also not good for long term archival storage. If you are powering on the drive at least once a month, you should be fine. If you want it to sit on a shelf for a year or more, then you should find a different storage method -- HDD, blue ray, DVD, tape, etc. Really? I've never heard this. Wh...

Re: anybody using SSD drives for data/sessions?
Not sure what difference it makes during the actual recording, but your sessions will load SO much faster and so will any sample instruments you use.
