Re: harsh frequencies? rogue resonances?
There are several ways to solve this problem, so I suggest trying them all and seeing what works best! You'll learn a ton, no matter what.

Re: harsh frequencies? rogue resonances?
The one thing (two things I guess) I've not tried yet is dynamic EQ (and/or multiband compression). Truth is: I'm completely baffled by dynamic EQ. Just can't get my head around it for some reason. I have the FabFilter EQ, so I know I have the gear to pull it off. I just don't have the skills. How ...

There's no shame here, don't worry!gravitychapters wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 2:00 pmI realize this exposes me as a bit of a novice, but so be it; that's what I am. The reason I keep working at it (and asking questions) is to become something more than a novice.
Have you tried a compressor or a dynamic EQ?

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts
I'm sure now he has a crew that spends HOURS per song editing EVERY attack to the grid. Those people are probably going blind zooming in and nudging tracks to the EXACT SPOT... So where is the line drawn between doing a correction for the sake of making the recording better and just doing something...

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts
I was thinking about this thread and how most of us on here seem to not love drum samples and I was wondering if any of us are young (say, under 30)? I most certainly am not! And most of y'all have been here forever too, so you aren't either. Be interested to hear perspectives from younger folks. I...

A pair of JBL 305P MK II powered monitors. Just barely fits on my desktop but that's OK. The merciless accuracy takes some getting used to at first but all told I'm very happy with them. Just what I needed for my particular setup. The ISO130 stands help a lot too in keeping excess object rattling t...

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts
Really unnecessarily DEEP-sounding snares, especially with roomy, Albini-style ambience. I used to listen to a lot of post-rock/math-rock stuff and it seemed like every record had this kind of sound, often when a smaller, snappier snare would have been the right choice.

Re: The Truth Hurts - REW and my room...
Agreed with everyone else; this is not that bad. Any frequency response graph you see for a mic or speakers is heavily smoothed out, and everything looks "worse" when you see the raw data. I say try to take care of the most glaring problems the best you can, then just accept how your room is and lea...

Re: replicating "bleed" in a multitrack recording
If your mixing room is big enough and sounds good, just play a dry mix through your speakers and record with the stereo or multichannel mic setup of your choice (ORTF, X/Y, Ambisonic, etc.). If you have a small mixing room, reamp it on a living room stereo or bring your monitors into some other medi...

Re: Tascam 388 Maintenance, Repair and FAQ thread
Has anyone ever gone through with getting their heads relapped? One of my machines has heads that need it. I understand JRF provides this service still I was more just curious if anyone has done it. Thanks I had JRF relap and align the heads on my 38 (not 388) several years ago, and it cost $190 pl...
