IMHO, the real discussion is how music is curated (to use a high falutin' academic word). The online world has changed how music is (or isn't) curated. Pre-internet, your choices to find out about new music boiled down to word of mouth, record stores (and clerks), the radio or maybe a music magazine...

A cool and cheap variation on the SM57-58 stylee, are the EV N/D mic's. I swear I've not heard a bad one. I really like the 267 on amps, and have been using the 767 on my vox at band practice. (Yes, I am again inna band ...) Another cool mic is the Senn 609; it's quite useable on vox and percussion...

Ummm.... .... maybe we all forgot our roots and neglected to remember that not all cassette 4 tracks take balanced and/or low-z mic inputs.
