Re: My Massive Preamp Comparison
I'm pretty sure I've recommended the Chandler Germanium as one of the few preamps that really stands out as different from it's peers. There's only so far from "accurate preamp" that things can diverge before you no longer have a useful general purpose preamp. Sometimes the differences are at the ed...

Re: Additional Analog Outputs via ADAT
The Orion can be configured in the control panel app for whichever combination of Analog-ADAT-MADI-USB you want it to do. You can then store 5 of those configs in the 5 buttons on the front panel. I've used mine successfully with Windows/iOS/Mac/Linux. If you're not changing the routing, you don't n...

Re: Additional Analog Outputs via ADAT
I don't believe the Audient or RME convert from ADAT to Analog. Neither has an ADAT input port. I think the analog outs on both are just the output from the preamp stage. In the respectable quality column, you might also keep an eye open for an Antelope Orion 32 or Lynx Aurora. In the older column, ...

Re: Y cable on top+bottom Tom mics
Things you learn when doing the top/bottom tom mic thing: Tuning the drums is critical. If the bottom head isn't in tune with the top, the result is mush. And if the bottom head is the same pitch as the top, it doesn't contribute much...just more of the same. A 3rd, 4th, or 5th away from the top (ei...

Re: Fethead to the rescue! (was "What to do with a crippled MD421?")
Probably still a good idea to get that 421 fixed, though. I agree. If the FETHead fixes it, then it seems like maybe there's a bad connection somewhere...the "low output and thin" symptom can be observed when one leg of the output transformer is floating. Does anyone in North America have recent ex...

Re: Whaddya call these? (DB25 thumb-screw thingies)
"Knurled DB-25 thumbscrews" is a good approximation of a name...Amazon gives me some links searching that. They might need details to specifically interface a given backshell (flanges or recesses or whatever), so you might have to get the whole thing as a bundle: https://www.redco.com/Redco-DB25HM-4...

Mic Stand & Cable Organizer Wall
So the topic of storing mic stands and cables has come up a number of times through the years. I thought I'd share the solution I recently came up with for the new space. I call it a "tack wall," after the section of wall you'd have in a stable where you'd find your equestrian accessories hanging. I...

Re: CV out from Protools to analog sequencer for tempo?
You want a MIDI clock to pulse converter. MIDI clock works in terms of song tempo - faster tempo means more frequent clock pulses. The hangup is that MIDI uses 24 pulses per quarter. If you take those directly to your sequencer, it'll probably run much faster than you want. If you divide that by 6, ...

In Re TG33:
I didn't even know it did that! I spun the wheel a bunch of times last night - it seems to give me a bunch of flavors of haunted calliope. Which might actually be cool for this witch house remix I've got in the queue! The random patch generator on it is both fun and useful.

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....
Sold my ol SM-10 headset mic to a gentleman who wanted to use it for his singing cowboy routine. He was concerned whether it would fit under his cowboy hat. e all y'all in agreement that, besides the RIP threads, this is the most depressing current thread at TOMB? Not at all in this case. I upgraded...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Went to the local synth swap meet, hoping to score an old Korg/Yamaha vector synth.
Walked away with Mike Metlay's old TG33.
Mission accomplished.

Re: Overhead stand hardware (4038)
That Walmart one looks pretty usable. Get a die and put threads on the other end, and you'd really have something even better. I've got a couple variants of the Gator/OnStage add on arms. I've also got a couple of the cheapo stereo t-baradapters...between them and a couple C stands, I can fly stereo...

Re: Connecting an old Lynx Aurora to a modern PC
So a couple data points (not directly Lynx related): I recently ran a Hammerfall PCI card in a modern PC using a StarTech PCI to PCIe adapter. No serious hangups running 32 in and out over USB with a Antelope Orion with a stable of older/hand-me-down PCs. Sometimes takes some tinkering to be certain...

Re: Hi/Low Pass with resonance
Resonant filters are more of a synth thing than a mixing tool, so that might guide your search. The handful of HP/LP filters in "mixing-style" plugins with resonance (or Q) don't offer huge control over the resonance, the way the synth filters do, just a little sharper knee or a small bump at the ed...
