I think you missed a line in between 2 and 3 - (other stories of spraypainted discs that cause no problems).

I would echo the suggestion to use inkjet-printable discs; you can get them for as low as $29/100. another suggestion that I just got tipped to - go out to the hardware store and pick up some plain contact paper (shelf paper). stick the cd's recordable-side-down on the sticky side, then spraypaint. ...

another tip - I went to the local Goodwill and found some 9v wall-warts for 49 cents each, I cut the end off and wired a pair of banana plugs to it, so it fits in the breadboard quick and easy.

totally. not only is it easier to correct a problem, it's easier to try out modifications if you happen to see an opportunity... "what if I had a 100K pot here instead of a 100K resistor?"

regarding #1 - I don't think it's passive; I see lots of stripped-down schematics where stuff is implied, and you don't get full info on pin connections, where the op-amp connections just show the +, -, and output, not the power and ground.

it probably wouldn't be super dangerous to re-splice and wrap in electrical tape (I've done it before, salvaging some extension cords).

but since you're already into the guts, why not get a fresh three-conductor power cable, and wire it into the points of origin?

I've downloaded it and played around with it a bit - I haven't dug into the midi or automation of it yet, so mostly I've just gone "ooooh, that's neat...."

the only software I've ever found is WavSnd - don't know if there's a Mac version.
