Re: "Cold-soldering" soldering iron?
My tech teacher had one. Its amazing. I have no idea how it works. I am clueless. but it DOES do as advertised. I grabbed it a few seconds later...it was really not hot. I was kindof stunned. they do work.

Re: What's up with thoes Neumann digital mics?

What's up with thoes Neumann digital mics?

Re: Good not-too-flat monitors?
A montoring enviornment doesnt need to be perfect. but is should definetly be a place your farmilar with when it comes to sound. The easiest to work with is a flat response. but this is unrealistic to most home studios. just something to keep in mind. My favorite monitors are HR824s, NS-10s, and all...

Hey, 2 single 1176s vs. 2-1176
the black 1176s from UA look way cooler. they also are probably the closest in terms of specs to the originals. but two of them would be about $800-900 more than a 2-1176...once again can someone explain why? I must be missing something. Also, how hard is it to stereo link two 1176s? not that I coul...

Why are movies so damn dynamic? (this is not a rant)
Cuz I like it. Next time you go to a movie, listen to how dynamic everything is. I mean everything. It makes it sound huge too. Does anyone know what kindof compression is typical for movies? It does't seem like much. I just noticed this

Re: Bit rate.
I should add, if your burning a 24-bit to a CD (16) you will add dither, and the effect of 24-bits will be brought to a minimum. so, all CDs (right now) are 16-bit. something to think about Dave, Dither is a good thing. It actually increases the effective dynamic range of 16 bit to beyond 96 db, an...

Re: A mix of digital and analog
use nice analog preamps and analog tracking gear. I mean compressors, limiters, etc etc. this can be $...look for a good condition vintage deck. just bounce your digital mix to it..itll add some analog goodness
