If you HAD to choose...
between a matched pair of Oktava MC012 and a matched pair of Studio Projects C4, which would you go with. I know niether are ideal. I'm looking for something that I can put as both overhead and acoustic guitar. I guess i'm asking what the most versatile is and what sounds the best. I hope the answer...

SAW Studio
I just acquired SAW and was wondering what I should know. Are there any cool tricks? What is the largest advantage of it?

Re: the best drum sound(in my opinion that is)
My favorite drum sound is definitly Chad Sexton's on pretty much any 311 album. Like them or not, that sound is all in the way he plays. The way he gets that so many different snare sounds is all in his wrist. I guess it never hurts having Ron St. Germain produce and engineer your albums. That remin...

Re: Modest Mouse On Letterman
I havr to disagree. The drummer on Good News is extremely technical. You really have to have an ear to hear it. His snare fills and ghost notes are really nice. His name is Ben Weikel. His band is called "The Helio Sequence". They're pretty good. Trashy pop electronic. lots of vintage synth sounds.

duplicate the audio file on another track. Pan one hard left and the other hard right...flip one out of phase. That's what I do.

Re: Favorite Drum Sounds
Chad Sexton from 311 always has the SICKEST drum sounds to me. Everything is perfect. With a drummer like that, there's very little for an engineer to do except place microphones.

Re: How was Pet Sounds redone in stereo?
I have the DVDa....amazing...It sounds like the Beach Boys are right in front of you. It's one of the better 5.1 mixes I've heard. Mark Linnett mixed it in nuendo and Joe Gastwirt( I think that's his name) mastered it. I definitly recommend the DVDa. To hear the french horn in God Only Knows enter i...

Re: opinions: Should I sell my motu 828 mkII for an 896. not
If that's the case, the 896 may be more your style, just make sure you know what you'll miss. It's more basic then the 828 but it's all about the features you do or don't need. For the average mobile rig or a singer/songwriter deal, it's nice. As far as I can tell, the 896HD just has the 192k sampl...

Re: opinions: Should I sell my motu 828 mkII for an 896. not
The pre's definitely hang in there with my other stuff, just nice and clean. I use my more expensive pres for the things that really need a lot of coloration (mostly a case of turd-polishing here) and use the 896 for the stuff that is mic'ed well and I don't want to alter the sound of. When I got m...

Re: opinions: Should I sell my motu 828 mkII for an 896. not
The big difference is with the preamps. If you're not using an external mixer/pre's and want to plug right in with your mics then the 896 is the way to go. There are some other differences (inserts, SPDIF vs AES/EBU, MIDI, better monitoring on the 828) but the pre's is the big difference. I've got ...

opinions: Should I sell my motu 828 mkII for an 896. not HD?
I currently have a MOTU 828 MkII and a digimax lt. I'm selling my digimax lt because i need cash and I don't record drums often (mostly recording singer/songwriters). The 896 is available for pretty cheap on ebay and I was wondering what the positives and negatives of getting rid of both the 828 and...
