right, but they wanted the aesthetic of vinyl - its not about preserving the perfect mastered clarity. i have dennis wilson's pacific ocean blue - one set of mp3's that were from the real cd, and the mp3s that i ripped from my vinyl copy. of course they are both digital - one has been pretty poorly...

I use a U87 about 3' from the resonant head a few inches off the floor on pretty much every record I record that has drums.

Has anyone suggested also micing the batter head? I mic it usually with a 421 at a 45 degree angle pointed right above the actual beater.
