FS: Vintage Oktava ML15 Ribbon Mic

Hey all..... I've got an old Oktava ML15 that I'm selling. It's presently on Ebay, but I wanted to post it here as well....... Mic sounds amazing..... I have more mics than I need, and I'm trying to fund more toys, so it has to go. It's definitely got that vibe, and certainly a far better investment...

I tried Zonal about 8 or 9 years ago, when it first came out. It was touted as an audiophile formula, and rightly so. I remembered it being very thick however, making unsuitable for transports like a Sony/MCI or Otari, etc...... it could really only run properly on a Studer. From my recollection, it...

I'm not so into Rich Costey's mixes here..... neither for that matter, am I into Moulder's. Misery is a much more interesting listen, in my opinion. Also, some of the songs are just filler on this record, for me.....

I've got close to a dozen snares, and the one that gets used so much more often is the early 60's Ludwig Supra. Plain and simple. This drum just does the rock thing so well. Justin, you are totally right about getting 4-5 drums, finding the best head and tuning for each, and keeping them in that are...

I find too that many of the great drummers don't hit that hard overall...... I've recorded some pretty renowned drummers, and I can honestly say that 75% of them hit much softer than you think...... only louder when emotionally necessary. Joey Waronker, Brian Blade, Matt Chamberlain, Jerry Marotta, ...

I mixed a record some months ago that is being released in February. The band is Camphor, the label is Friendly Fire.... Max (the main Camphor) and I actually discussed this idea last night, where the record would be released with data files of "typically" brick walled mixes, but the main audio disc...

Studer A800, CCIR alignment....... any format tape........ that'd be my choice, aside from the occasional ATR 102.

Flip side of the coin....... "in the *old days*", engineers many times took hours to set up for a session....... in fact, Van Gelder was notorious for this. However, can one argue with the results? We keep opining on our professed LOVE for these "old school" recordings..... the best ones took time, ...

Firstly, throw them out....... NS-10s suck....... ha ha...... Beyond that, when I used NS-10s, I powered them with old McIntosh MC75 tube amps...... the only way they were ever listenable to me..... I did also use Hot House 500 amps, but they're a bit of coin...... MOSFET amps, and tubes seem to mat...

ATR Tape Users???

How's everyone liking ATR stuff? I still had a bunch of GP9 the last few months, but I'm getting to needing more tape.

A friend bought a few reels of 2" and they were gunking up his transport on a A800..... any experiences?/?

I've been doing a song at a time, except mixing...... for me, it keeps things more spontaneous and fresh...... keeps the whole record from sounding the same. I tend top work the other way only when things have to be done piecemeal or in different studios, etc...... otherwise, I like a song at a time...

i'm just sick of these guys always repeating the same sentiment. Do you think it's dishonest? Sometimes I do think it's dishonest. Sometimes it's not...... it's just that it's become such a talking point. The reality is that skill made old records dound the way they do...... not technology (at leas...

I think Frusciante is severely overhyped, and frankly, the whole schtick about "putting people in a room live", and "2 mics on the drums" is just getting so tired...... good records are made in so many ways....... Nobody says anything new..... it's like we have little buzz phrases about vibe, and ho...
