Re: help, i've become anal retentive!

you could play to a clicktrack- if you're recording in a DAW, the onboard click can tempo sync any plugins, or midied up stuff... old studio tricks include using the 'ducking' function' on a noisegate; record the gtr clean, hook the 'in' of the noisegate up to trigger device- something that's playin...

Re: recommend a good acoustic piano!

i've been offered a bechstein upright for around $1300- i've only seen pics of it, so i dunno about sound quality, but i know these are supposed to be the poop. and it's comparatively cheap.
would it be worth dropping the cash on, even if i did require a few hundred$ restoration?

recommend a good acoustic piano!

I'm sick of goddamn cheesy sound modules so i'm buying a piano for my studio.
I've got 2 problems; PRICE- not got the scratch for $34,000 steinways (yet), and SPACE- i only have a tiny room. so- suggestions for a decent upright for around $1-$2,000, if there is such a thing...

cubase/protools/mbox

so, i bought a HP laptop to do some mobile recording. i needed a soundcard- the Digi Mbox looked sexy, but too much $$, so i bought a tascam us 122 instead. BUT, a few days later, i got a bit of extra cash- enough to take the (unused) 122 back in and trade for an Mbox. finally, my question(s)- is it...

Re: nick drake and mic pre used to record pink moon

nick drake's influenced by him. there's a couple of bootlegs of him attempting frank's signature song 'blues run the game'...
the studio where he recorded all his albums was Sound Techniques in Chelsea (London), if that's any help...

Re: gibson j-160e or ephiphone ej-160e

if you can find one, get an original gibson j160 (the 50s-60s ones). dealers try to charge and absolute fortune for them (mostly to beatles fans with more money than sense) but they do come up for cheap from time to time... mine's a 68, and sounds lovely, plugged in or acoustic...

Re: Optigan (is it worth it?)

optigans are THE SHIT, but be warned, if you think addiction to recording gear is bad, wait until you start collecting optigan discs. they look and sound SO COOL that you can't help yourself- factor in the rarity of some and oh boy... in fact, i'm going to have to go and scour ebay right now,m i'm j...

do i need a reamp for my 2408?

do i? i want to run some signals back out of the card into stompboxes and the like, but it's a little obscure as to whether or not i'd blow anything up coming out of the 2408.

also, the reamp site talks about 'professional studio gear'- what's the difference in sound o/p between pro and consumer?

vintech aieeee!

i got a vintech 1272 clone. i specified 220v with a UK plug (where i'm from-duh). it arrives, with a US style plug hardwired in. oh well, i've got a step down converter i can use with it. so, all set up, have a go- it's quiet, and hums. i email vintech (who are always helpful, it has to be said) who...
