Re: 21st Century Stereo Mix Down Deck

Maybe something like this? Tascam also has a fancier option for about $900. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DN300Rmk2--denon-dn-300rmkii-solid-state-sd-usb-audio-recorder Uses mini SD cards...and / or USB to a computer for transfers. Here's the obvious issue... Between this box and having t...

Come to think of it...

Guess it depends on what T.O.M.B. member owl is setting out to do.

Past that?

Ask Jason...

Re: Moving From DAW to R2R - How To Maximize Only 8 Tracks?

I’m surprised nobody has said this — don’t print the reverb tracks to tape. Run the reverb on an aux on your mixer. You will hear it on playback, and you’ll hear it when you mix down. It’s been a long time since I used 8 track tape, but consider doing things like bouncing the rhythm section to a si...

Re: Moving From DAW to R2R - How To Maximize Only 8 Tracks?

As for "Most..." reverb being a stereo effect...

Depends on what someone intends on doing. I can think of some pretty notable recent instances of mono reverb.

Re: Moving From DAW to R2R - How To Maximize Only 8 Tracks?

Most reverb is a stereo effect, no? There is a L and a R output from the reverb box, meaning I will need two tracks on the tape recorder to preserve the stereo effect of the reverb. What I'm asking is whether most people just collapse the L and R outputs of the reverb into a mono signal, thus only ...

If you don't like being stuck with just eight tracks?

Don't be.

Re: Moving From DAW to R2R - How To Maximize Only 8 Tracks?

... For instance, once I get going with my R2R, I plan to use an outboard stereo reverb on my voice and instruments. This means my voice and acoustic guitar, each processed through the reverb, will take up 4 tracks total. Now I'm already out of half of my tracks! ... So... Why would that be the case?

Uh, while they are Coke and Pepsi for a reason?

(Peavey 520/Beyderdynamic M88)

(Matter of fact, the M88 would be my bet to almost completely solve this problem...)

Re: Isolating Vocals when Recording with DI Electric Guitar

While I am really interested in if some of the workarounds will stick the landing... If this whole "Pick Noise..." thing really had me by the throat? Put some money into a moderately priced dynamic that is directional(Cardioid/Supercardioid...) Try it in the same position the vocal microphone is in ...

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts

I think it's hilarious that a thread called "Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts" has become a Mutt Lange thread. The guitars in the pre-chorus of "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" is one of the "All-Time Champ..." overdriven guitar recordings. That thing is evergreen. Never mind that I get ...

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts

And I would gently remind you that your non-brilliant visionary made Back in Black. That Power Station room is so completely insane. Not hard to imagine drums sounding good in there. Glad I didn't have the job of putting the wood up though. J Hall (who some of you may remember) and I came up with a...

Re: Recording Trends/Techniques that drive you nuts

One fellow's very particular grumble... At some point, Glenn Danzig really took an interest in the "Nuts..."/"Bolts..." aspect of the "Recording..." component of his solo albums(seems like he even mentioned buying old Kustom amps in an interview...) Every single one of those records since then has b...

Re: replicating "bleed" in a multitrack recording

While it is not exactly "Bleed...", you could give something like this a try. In addition to adding some space, it might lend some uniformity if the elements recorded in different places are that big of an issue.
