Re: long time listener, first time poster...please listen

that's funny you mention that :) because i've been struggling with bass a bit and i actually cut a lot of bass on that song because i thought it sounded too bassy when i was listening to it in my car and home stereo.

maybe i cut a bit much?

long time listener, first time poster...please listen

hey there, i'm still pretty new to this recording gig, but check out a couple of my clients that i've recorded recently and let me know what you think. unfortunately, i can't hard link because of angelfire, but if you go to my page below (and click on the "C" for clients) the first few bands up ther...

Re: Another Wilco/Ghost is Born thread....

back to the material on the record (and production)... did any of you guys pick up that "loose fur" EP (side project with tweedy, o'rourke, and kotchke)? the music on AGIB really sounds much more like a continuation of "loose fur" than YHF to me. but then again, i guess the common connection is o'ro...

Re: Another Wilco/Ghost is Born thread....

also.... i'm surprised no one has brought up the possible impact of this being the first "post jay bennet" album, and how that may play into the likes/dislikes of the record. jay did a lot of the main sound shaping and engineering for YHF, and has claimed more influence on the songs than traditional...

Re: Another Wilco/Ghost is Born thread....

Trashy, I like your point about Jim O'Rourke. I can't stand his productions. Just about everything I've heard comes out sounding annoyingly sterile and overly-labored. It's like his MO is to take great bands and sap them of any and all soul they once possessed. that's funny! especially if you've se...

Re: song order issue

What happens often, after I propose such a sequence, is the artist will say... all the songs about growing old are next to each other, or the 3 songs with lap steel solos are together or those 2 songs are in the same key. Then I feel stupid and just start nodding... ha ha. that is funny, and very t...

"being there" for some reason just floors me. then again, that's the first wilco album i heard and sometimes those just stick with you.

Re: Another Wilco/Ghost is Born thread....

love the record. can't quite get my head around how every wilco album can sound and feel so completely different...but the music is still rooted in the same principles and songwriting. i mean we're really not talking 'the bends' vs. 'kid a' type transitions in songwriting, but each album is so disti...

Re: song order issue

i don't know about a specific article or formula (although when tracklisting my bands or helping with clients, their albums are set up peculiarly similar to above :) ) but tracklisting can seriously break a record if not done right (see pinkerton). great record overall, but would have had such a dif...

Re: WHITE STRIPES

I've heard he's primarily a fuzz face guy, but i'm sure there's other things lurking down there (as to what's between his Airline and the Twin). and as far as the bass thing goes, they've kind of said different things in different places. the 'seven nation army' sound is actually guitar (as jack's s...

Re: like a record

Although I suppose you could just mix in a real record during a part with no music. Haven't tried that before. actually, i have tried that before, with pretty good success. just threw on the front end of "rubber soul" with a pair of MC012's on ye ol' bookshelf speakers. cut up the part before the m...
