what happens when i do the line out of my 002 and put it directly into pedals, and then back into a preamp using a 1/4 inch to xlr? what horrible things does that do? Try it and see. It would probably work best if your line out of the 002 is a low level or run through an attenuator. If you want to ...

I think custom pedal boards are incredibly overpriced. You can get a roll of velcro and a slab of plywood for $10. I found a suitcase at Goodwill that was the perfect size and it holds all of my cables and stuff too. This is what I did too, except I drilled holes in the plywood and used cable ties ...

Another solution to this is to use a cable with the shield disconnected on one end. For instance, if you have your guitar cable going into the a/b switch, then 2 cables going out of the switch to 2 amps (that are properly grounded!), you will have a ground loop. If you disconnect the shield on one e...

I'd like to refer you guys to this chart on page 27: http://www.shure.com/stellent/groups/public/@gms_gmi_web_ug/documents/web_resource/us_pro_micsmusicstudio_ea.pdf So according to you, the Cello has the same frequency range as a guitar... Nope. Actually, the Cello ranges from C2 (65.4 Hz) to C6 (...

I've had my RNC for about five years, and the build quality is not great. I like it for drum room mics and vox. Have you had any problems related to build quality? I've had mine for probably 8 years and it's been pretty beat up but it's held up well. It looks kind of cheap, but it seems solid to me.

Conventional wisdom says that LPs sound better than CDs. If this is true, "conventional wisdom" must be some new term meaning "what people who don't remember what it's like to listen to LPs think". Ok, maybe LPs sound warmer, if such a term makes sense, but I'd gladly do without the following sound...

I'd guess tape was used at studios. Only the post-WWII recordings, and then not for a couple of years. so the early stuff was cut directly to disk? I think this has been posted here before, but here's an awesome video showing the pre-tape era record cutting process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h...

Re: Billy Gibbons Uses Quarter for Guitar Pick?
I've heard he uses light gauge strings (like .008). He probably has to change them a lot.song-writer wrote:then again maybe he uses heavy guage strings. I am curious if anyone knows of the string guage he uses as well as if he does use coins (full-time or occasionaly ) for a guitar pick?

I'm 49, so I was about 18 when "Aja" came out. Up until that time, I liked the Steely Dan songs I heard. But I remember when Aja was released, the local FM stations WAY overplayed it and presented it like some sort of great gift from the gods. To me, it sounded like boring smooth jazz. And about tha...

Another thing about the Abbey Road chamber was that they had a dedicated high pass/low pass filter that everything went through before being sent to the chamber. In fact, one of the sample pages on the "Recording the Beatles" book website talks about it: http://recordingthebeatles.com/RS106-FilterEx...
