acoustic treatment

I'll consider your products for sure. I've learned a great deal from reading your posts... and those of Ethan's. But, my friend has an attic filled with panels of 703, and I'll probably start by making some sleeves for them. Would you suggest taking baseline acoustic readings before I add treatment?...

floor

After much discussion, debate and thought, I went with a laminate floor... similar to pergo. That stuff looks a lot better these days. It was 1/3 the cost of a "real" wood floor of the type that this one simulates, and I put it in myself with help from neighbors. To the un-trained eye, it's just as ...

Much Progress

I have framed out the truss bays, added sub floors to them, hung, textured and finished the drywall, painted, and laid the floor. Just a couple pictures: http://benjaminwells.net/images/IMG_0020_resized.jpg http://benjaminwells.net/images/IMG_0025_resized.JPG The Rhodes, Music Man and Ampeg came in ...

great info

This is great info. I was only recently introduced to the concept of optimum musician placement in a room, before mic placement. It makes perfect sense to me. This band is good at mixing themselves. Should be fun relying less on faders than players movements.

Renting...

Renting = good suggestion. Breckenridge is no audio hub but I might be able to rent from a place in Denver. Mark Jeffery gave me a price on a new 4050: $638. It's about equal to buying online + shipping, so if I buy one new I think I'll support the local guy. I might even be able to rent his to audi...

AT 4050

Thank you! Funny. I played a gig here in Breckenridge at the River Walk Center and a guy by the name of Mark Jeffrey did the sound. The mic in front of me was the AT 4050. If anyone out there has a used AT 4050 they'd like to move, let me know in the next two weeks or so.

Omni Recommendations For String Band

I'll be recording a six piece string band and I would like to use an omni to do so. The band vibes well playing in a circle facing each other, standing up. Two guitars, double bass, fiddle, banjo, harmonica (honorary string instrument). Please mention mics you feel would work well for this. As an al...

Before the Music Dies

+1 That thing where Branford Marsalis goes off on the topic of his students, and how they are "full of shit", and they "just want to be told how great they are", is one of my favorite two minutes of film ever. A great documentary. A video epitaph for the music industry as we know (knew) it. Does any...

morphing on Kyma

For morphing, I discovered symbolicsound.com. I've never tried it. It's pretty expensive hardware that runs this software called Kyma. But it can do this:
http://www.symbolicsound.com/mp3/morphs.mp3

It's built for sound designers and looks like a lot of fun. Anyone have this system?

Yo!

You know, I've noticed that we're all so damn busy that it takes a long time to get people to listen on TOMB. I noticed you are from Whittier. I was edubacated at Whittier College, class of 1991. Nice songs!

I kind of like the idea of a small, portable flash recorder. Seems simple enough. But... I don't feel it's about the stuff surrounding you. It's about the riffs you talked about creating in a coffee shop. Recently, I discovered this: http://changethis.com/6.HowToBeCreative It is a rather famous free...

kuvo.org

I'm listening to KUVO.org tonight... and I just wanted to acknowledge them for their stellar work providing jazz over the airwaves in Denver Colorado, and world wide on their web site. These days, non-profits are hurting. Hell, for-profits are hurting. But, these guys have been doing this, and doing...

Zero 7

+1 Air
also, Zero 7. Their track "Destiny" off of their album Simple Things is a great example-
off of the same album "Salt Water Sound" is another.
