Generally, one can nudge the offending hit later in time... with a window loose enough that if you bring the "left edge" of the nudged region back you can meet up with the decay - and align either side of the edit so the waveform stays consistent. Then, a tiny crossfade to insure no glitch and you h...

I will elaborate on what I posted earler, just for the informational nature of it. A friend 'ripped' a song off my MySpace player. It was 96 kbps 22.050 kHz . That latter bit of data being crucial, methinks. That is, if you're wondering what's happening in particular with your tracks on MySpace - th...

Oh, no! That "real vs. fake" concept again! It's all fake, unless you are talking about bird songs and coyotes howling and stuff. EVERYTHING is fake. That's what we humans do best. Amen, as soon as you punch in or mult you're "faking it." We need to look at this (and other tools) not for what damag...

I've been using (the slightly older version of) MP3Doctor for years. Strictly for encoding from WAV files. None of their 'normalizing' or any of that. Dunno what encoding algorithm it's using, but it's always been good to me. http://www.mp3doctor.com/ That's on the PC. And, frankly, I don't mind the...

Everything I've ever bought that was pressed with http://piratespress.com has been amazing. Super heavy virgin vinyl, cut really loud (the latter of course is dictated by how much one is trying to cram on a side...)

We've got a pair over here, that belong to a regular freelance engineer who works here a lot. I think they're pretty great. Agreed about how clean and neutral they are, and how they don't like to be clipped. But I've used them with all sorts of mics, from top-shelf to bargain-basement, and the fact ...

Make sure that your release times with compression or limiting on it aren't too fast - especially with fast attack times and especially with the bass band - that's a great way to make that thing distort, even if it seems nothing is clipping. Other than that, I use mine with low ratios and minimal ga...

Actually, I find that MySpace's player can sound wildly different depending on the source. Keeping in mind that it's reencoding your already encoded MP3s! Try other things aside from VBR. I usually go with a fixed bit rate, going as high as I can before MySpace rejects it for being too big of a file...

If I can suggest keeping them the heck away from walls. They throw some odd midgrange off the back of their cabinets (all speakers do to some degree) and if you're too close to the walls, that stuff sums in nasty ways with what's coming out of the drivers. I hated my NS10s for years (only had them b...
