I like the Duncan '59 for neck and bridge. Great all-around pups and work for everything.

Another thing to consider- the 2203 is 100W, which will be ungodly loud if you go for the classic cranked Marshall sound. For a studio amp I'd look for something with much less power. I have a 2204 and at 50W is still very, very, loud.

I used the recorderman technique for a few years but lately moved away from it. IMO the downsides are a very narrow stereo image and of course the mics are so close to the drummer. Been using a spaced pair lately, maybe I'll try XY again.

I have the Fishman Rare Earth Single Coil in a Martin D-18 and love it for live gigs. Not so much for di recording but thats what mics are for.

Portland, OR benefit show for studio owner/musician 12/29

A benefit for local music legend/studio owner Jeremy Wilson will be at the Doug Fir Lounge on Saturday December 29th. All songs will be Cure covers. I'll be playing and some other Tape Oppers will as well. The benefit is to help Jeremy with medical bills. Cure Tribute: Chris Robley & the Fear of Hei...

Wow that thing is huge! I used to have a Tacoma Chief bass which is bigger than your average a-bass, but I think yours is mucho bigger still. Enjoy.

If you are desoldering and removing a wire from something like a plug or a pot terminal, don't pull the wire towards your face. I've gotten hot solder splashed in my eyeballs a couple time and its no fun.

Try Falcon. They are pretty high end $$$ but the big room is fantastic.

I don't know where you're at in WA but I'd highly recommend The 12th Fret in Portland www.the12thfret.com. They did a corrective refret on my Martin D-18 plus some other things on other guitars and did a fantastic job.

I have 2 LP Standards (an '80 cherry sunburst and a '90 black) and agree with most of the advice given here- play a bunch of guitars before you buy and find a used one. Look for a guitar that sounds lively unplugged, if it sounds kinda dead then pass. The '90 is my #1 guitar in the whole wide world,...

Call me wierd, but I tend to think that there will be a brand of strings that will sound best on an instrument. That same brand of string may sound like ass on a different guitar. Agree completely. I've used different brands of strings for each acoustic that I've had. Currently D'Addario EJ16 on my...

Sansamp BDDI. I record direct with it all the time and use it in front of an amp to give it a little grit, fantastic box.
