You don't see a lot of professional studios complaining about iLoks. I got one when I bought Pro Tools M-Powered a few years ago so that I could consolidate audio for clients so that we could mix in DP. I plugged it into my machine and haven't thought about it since. In fact, the only time I have to...

If there are pirate versions, which don't require iLok, then clearly iLok doesn't work to deter piracy. This is inaccurate and illogical. The existence of pirate versions doesn't prove that there is NO deterrence. Not everyone involved with computers and audio has the interest or knowledge to seek ...

Oh, although one more thing: piracy is not stealing. It just isn't. Piracy is piracy, it's making illegal copies. Stealing is taking someone's property without permission. Those two things are clearly not the same. As long as we keep fudging the terms, it'll be all the easier for people to argue th...

Yep. There's a rational, reasonable, mature, and legal way to deal with companies that have policies that offend you. Do not use their products. Find alternatives that you can support in good conscience. I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't continue a dialog about DRM or copy protection... But, we s...

Wherever you stand, LINKS TO PIRATE BAY AND ENCOURAGING USERS TO PIRATE SOFTWARE are things that are not allowed, nor welcome on the Tape Op Message Board. Many of the people here make their living from operating commercial recording studios. And, people who do that, generally don't steal the softwa...

Same lame argument, different decade. If you don't like the conditions by which a company or individual sells something that they have every legal right to sell, you just don't buy it. Stealing it instead is not the answer. For years, I didn't like the way Waves handled their authorizations and forc...

This post reminds me of another time recently where a customer thought they'd get some public support for a crusade against a corporation that they felt had wronged them..... I think you both come out smelling about the same.

Waves hasn't supported Mac PPC since version 7. They're now on version 9, which doesn't even require an iLok, but DOES require an Intel Mac. All of this is clearly stated on the Waves website. If you bought some "new" Waves plugins the other day, then you're a fool for spending money without conside...

Hmmmm... I don't know. Maybe confidence in my taste and ability to recognize good sounds when I heard them. I also think that while many of my friends/peers were obsessing over gear, I was desperate to get in as much experience as possible. Honestly, many of my early recordings didn't show much prom...
