Re: Leather Pouch for Shure SM7B?

Harbor Freight has knock-off Pelican cases (Apache brand) that would be great for an SM7B for around $20.

Re: CAIKLEEN SHELF LIFE?

The only thing I have ever used to 'maintain' the pinch rollers on my reel-to-reel decks over the years is mild soap and water. Pinch rollers on cassette decks are more difficult to remove, hence the array of chemical solutions. All I can say is "milder is better" when it comes to cleaning pinch rol...

Re: Shure M67 Mods

The issue (for me) with the M267 mix bus or the 'modded individual channel output' is not one of impedance matching but of gain - its very low at 400 mV (-8 dBv) - because the signal is taken out before it goes to the summing amp stage. I'm not sure if the topology and gain structure is the same for...

Re: Shure M67 Mods

what is the output impedance of the single ended direct out? Holy necro-thread Batman! Shattersignal didn't "report back" five years ago, so I'm guessing the Cinemag transformers (150:4 impedance ratio) didn't do the trick...I tried a few mods on a Shure M267 - admittedly a different beast - but ha...

Re: The battle against sibilance

^Yeah, a dynamic mic might be worth a shot. It's a Pearlman 47. I've used it a bunch without this problem before. Of course I had to write the lyric "There's chaos in your lapses", an obstacle course! I've been singing the line playing with mouth shape and tongue position, yikes! It's usually enoug...

Re: Mic stands in 2022?

said it before.. some of the newer design cheaper asian (non stainless steel) c-stands have long arms with 1/4-20 an 3/8-16 male threads on the ends namely the flashpoint brand adorama in NYC sells they work great for booming out mics about 40" and have a riser range of about 5 -10 feet high cost l...

Re: Analog/Hardware Brickwall Limiter for Digital Mastering

Aphex Dominator. I've had one at the end of my analogue chain for years. Takes a bit of fiddling to get it set right, but once dialed in for your particular AD conversion, you never have to look at it again and, more importantly, never have to worry about overs. Used as a limiter, without trying for...

Re: RE-20 windscreen

I got this mic used, it’s rather old, and I had it refurbished by EV last year, so it sounds like it should. It had much more high end when I got it back. I kinda hate tripod mic stands. As a matter of interest, what is the going rate for an EV RE20 refurb these days? I have one with a dead capsule...

Re: Good place to get mics serviced?

That area around the switches in a 414 is very high impedance - getting deoxit in there may actually make things worse. Best AKG service in USA is Land Audio Service in TN. Richard Land is an AKG-trained tech and absolutely recommended. https://www.akgmicrepair.com/

Just don't bother to buy the wax ring. I mean there's bound to be some shit coming out of the speakers at some point, but you don't need a proper gasket. The wax gaskets are only required if you are playing Edison cylinders... OT: Actually, my son has an Edison phonograph and its a pretty cool mach...

Re: The Tascam 388

I don't know if you are the DIY type, but when was the capstan motor last lubricated? (also the reel motors) I'm not familiar with the 388, but If they are like other Teac AC asynchronous motors, they usually have oiling tubes for the front and rear bearings. If its a servo-controlled DC motors its ...
