12 amps is an awful lot of current - would probably cook nearly every component in it's path save for maybe the big brown power resistors. Hopefully the very big mistake of someone using a 10A in a 3A slot didn't already fry a lot of other things. First thing I'd do is check all the boards you can s...

Re: Building a Jensen mic splitter

I finally received parts to build a 2-way mic splitter using a Jensen JT-MB-C. Looking at their suggested application schematic, I'm curious about the RC network to ground. What function does this serve? Also, I am wondering if th 51R value is critical, or if a 47R or 56R would stay within signal q...

FOR SALE: ART PRO VLA

I've got one PRO VLA that needs a new home. This is one of the original units. I bought it brand new in 1997 and it's stayed in the rack strapped across my mix buss ever since. Condition is excellent to near mint - only the tiniest of rack rash scuffs. It's never been modified in any way and still h...

Was luckily able to find and fix this problem. The apparent cause was the solenoid housing - located on the rear of the reel motor - had slipped out of position towards the left causing the solenoid plunger to disengage incorrectly(thus keeping the brakes from disengaging during Play/Rew/FF). Fixing...

80-8 Transport Problem

Hey My trusty TEAC 80-8 seems to have given up the ghost recently. The problem started about a year ago. After the machine had been running for several hours, the rewind wouldn't work properly. I would hit rewind and nothing would happen though I could hear the relays engaging. After repeatedly hitt...

I may or may not have a 284B manual. I'll have to check. I got a big box full of old Scully docs from back when finding such things was damn near impossible. And yes, I am familiar with the 280B being different from the 280. I have one of each type of deck. They are radically different machines. In...

WTB: Service Manual or Schematics for Scully 284-B 8 Track

I'm in some serious need of some schematics for a Scully 284B 8 track . If you have schematics for a 284B 4 track or 2 track these should work as well. Please note that 280B machines were a different series and most likely will have different pin outs, PS voltages, etc. If anyone has a set of these ...

Values are all spec on and connections were as per the original connections. I am wondering if one of the 'new' caps may be bad. I used two Sprague atoms for the 2000/15s but the two 1000/35s are Multi-Comps which, if price is any indication are nearly always way cheaper than most any other brands. ...

Recapping Power Supply for an Altec 1592A - Nightmare HUM!!

I just attempted to recap the power supply in my 1592A and was greeted with a nasty hum in the output. If you know these units you'll note the original caps were 4 Mallory single cans (just like the 1591s). Replacement cans for these values are nearly impossible to find so I decided to use 4 new sin...
