Thank you guys for your help! The drums are recorded quite in phase. What I have noticed is that some FX mess up the phase awfully lot without even working and I was wondering how you guys get past this issue. I don't like triggered drums really but I tested Drumagog and noticed that it made the una...

FX's and the affect on phase during drum mixing.

Hi guys! I would like to know if you guys are very strict on which effects you put on the seperate drum tracks when you mix, to preserve phase. I sat yesterday with two identical tracks, one phase flipped and then added effects on the phase flipped track and noticed how many plugins in zero settings...

The Electro-Harmonix 12AY7 Pre is amazing I think. It is one channel though. Another one channel preamp which is great in another way is the Groove Tubes The Brick. When I had it I always wanted it to be brighter but now afterward that I have sold it I miss how it tamed bright condensor mics and mad...

What to look for when close micing?

This will certainly sound like a mess but... I have always been trying to find almost the most treble sounding places when I have close miced but never gotten any really consistent sound out of it. When I have then tried to process it and mix it together, for example drums, it has never sounded like...

Topic: SM57 mod. Resistor and load/impedance questions!

Thanks for the reply! I understand that it changes the sound and the total load is changed. What I do want to know is what new impedance is the microphone alone when the resistor is added to pin 2 and 3. And why can a resistor be connected to two pins without the two signals going through those pins...

SM57 mod. Resistor and load/impedance questions!

The mod where you solder a 680 Ohm resistor between pin 2 and 3 makes me having these questions that I would like to ask you. Here we go: 1. The Shure SM57 is said in the spec sheet to have 150 (300 "actual") load. What is the new value when this mod is made to the mic or mic cable? 2. Doesn't the r...

I was the one who got some minor electrical chocks opening this thing up. When I lowered that small pot from full, like 5 o'clock, to 3-4 o'clock, all the crackling dissappeared. The volume change was not major so that it was a problem at all. I also got crackle micing really quiet stuff but this re...

I agree! I replaced the tubes with a Sovtek 12AX7LPS which is bright and a EH12AU7 and it made it sing much much more. At least it is brighters and cuts through more now and a SM57 sounds good with it now.

I know Bob Rock didn't like it and thought they should have a 'bigger' sound but he was selling himself at the time so take it with a grain of salt. I am quite sure that Bob Rock first worked with Metallica on their The Black/Metallica album from 1991 and ...And Justice For All came out in 1988 if ...
