Re: Discrete Discreet
Discrete isn't a buzzword. A discrete circuit is composed of basic components - transistors, resistors, caps. When a circuit of transistors and passive components are integrated onto an IC (IE opamp) then it is no longer discrete. Opamps are very convenient but you have less flexibility to "voice a ...

Easy, don't jump to conclusions. Maybe she's recording demos with the intention of having a finished product ready for a real studio like yours.

Re: Oh boy I bought a behringer board... some notes
Actually "gear snob" is going a little easy. Maybe "dickhead" would be more appropriate. One or two experiences with something does not make you an expert at anything, you have to admit. So after 1 or 2 experiences with Behringer (even if it was bad) does not make you an expert on Behringer gear. S...

Re: Oh boy I bought a behringer board... some notes
Personally, I've always disliked gear snobs. Personally I always disliked gear whose mechanical controls break, whose EQ makes the sound worse and causes feedback, whose circuits generate horrendous noise, and has a life cycle of two years before it becomes yet another addition to the landfill. Eve...

Re: Any reason not to crank your mic pre input gain?
Non-linearity means that the dynamic response of your input signal will change. Some good, some bad. Opamp-based preamps tend to be linear at any gain. Discrete preamps vary, some are linear at high gains while some aren't - a factor of the combination of transistor components used in the design. Li...

Re: Oh boy I bought a behringer board... some notes
I auditioned a Behringer board in a store once.
The only good EQ on them was the low cut switch.

Eventide 2016 Digital Reverb
Well, mine arrived this week. I made some sample mp3s and put up a web site. If you want to know what a $2,000 reverb sounds like, check it out. http://www.retrosynth.com/~analoguediehard/studio/effects/eventide_2016/ Curious how you folks think this compares to a Lexicon PCM or similar. This is one...

Re: which over heads to buy??? or something else???
If you're using an overhead mic for cymbals, the Sennheiser 441 worked very well for me. I put one on the drummer's kit (triggered kick and mic'd toms) and the results are on http://www.mojoboogieband.com/html/music.html under "Feeling Lucky". It added an unbelieveable crispness to the cymbals. The ...
