the integrated controller that handles all the peripherals is not going to be a s good perfromance as a dedicated IC. If you benchmark an onboard ethernet port vs a card based one the card based one nearly always wins. Even though they are in theory the same speed and operating on the same buss. Sa...

one part was out of date, not incorrect. What is correct is that in pretty much every damn computer made today teh USB is part of the same controller that handles the hard drives, mouse, keyboard, possibly video and the PCIe buss. It has a lot o do so its comprimised when compared to a 1394 chip wh...

You would have to have a USB host chip that i sup to the task of isochronous transfer. That is what the big deal about TI 1394 chips is. They do isochronous transfer no problem ALL USB host controllers support isochronous transfers. If they did not, then they wouldn't be used. Period. The problem, ...

I am dubious of the claims of USB interface makers. my day job is being a computer tech. We image Macs all day sometimes. By firewire 800, half hour firewire 400, 1 hour, USB external drive dongle (for macs with no firewire) almost 2 hours. USB is also dependent on the chipset in your system. Often...

Record the console mix outputs and the room mics to separate tracks, and during mixdown experiment with delaying the console mix.

Another vote for "just rent something."umz wrote:I'm playing a show on the 23rd and the cafe doesn't have a pa system. What would the best PA system be for under 200. I have a mic and mic cable, but wouldn't mind getting a whole package if I could find one. Thanks for your time

Another question. I've done some soldering here and there and have a decent enough gun, but I'm not sure the best type on solder to use. Any recomendations? Don't use a soldering gun (the things with the trigger and the big element). They're actually pretty terrible for detailed electronics work. T...

Well, that solved my problem! Turns out the PO of my 501 replaced the limiter and output pots with the wrong ones (20K linear instead of 50K log). A quick jaunt to the surplus and some soldered flying wires later (thanks for the tip The Scum) and she's running great! I hope the fix goes as painless...

Re: Bottles:Not permitted in the Jungle according to GNR!
Guns N Roses in Dublin last night. They've been showing up really late on stage recently, 85-90 minutes late. I think they went on three and half hours after doors opened, with no support act last night. Dublin wasn't having any of it. Mr Rose is apparently competing with Lauryn Hill to see who can...
