Yeah...I think that's basically what it amounts to. Truth be told....I try it both ways whether using xlr or 1/4". i'm using a G4 powerbook with the 002r and an external lacey drive. i plug the drive in using the FW800 port on the mac, and the 002r using the FW400 port. if your laptop doesn't have both FW800 and FW400 jacks on it, you can hook the external drive up to the 2nd FW400 jack on the back of the 002r. ...
