(Somebody called you an "atheist," then you said to me they'll probably call me an atheist too, so I requoted to you what you said to the first guy. . . .) That was me - although I didn't call Derrick an atheist, I merely asked if he was one , after he said "Till I see one, it doesn't exist." And t...

Finally, I used a ton of little automation moves to test out my faderport. Man this thing rules, I should have had one years ago for automating while mixing with my ghost. I got a Faderport too, just a couple months back. I agree, it makes automation a lot quicker. I just wish that it wasn't constr...

Free shit still available! And I'm adding this: A box of 90 cardboard egg crates, each one is one foot square. (The author of this message makes no claim as to the efficacy of said egg crates for sound treatment purposes. But they at least make handy trays for sorting electronics components!) Like t...

Re: The build in question

I was going off this... It seemed that we hadn't determined which model was the desired unit, so I wrote about the box I knew something about... fair enough, I guess! It's the 31-1989. :) If you find one, crack it open, switch out the ceramic caps in the signal path with poly caps (the two-bit green...

Re: The build in question

16 pages of BS. Till I see one, it doesn't exist. Oh, I see... you're an atheist, then? Nope, God I have seen. 16 pages of discussion, still nobody can produce a picture or model number of this EQ. Nothing wrong with it if you are an atheist, of course! Just engaging in a little Socratic dialogue. ...

Re: The build in question

RefD already broke it down like this: sorry, that's the semi-worthless silverfaced (brushed-aluminium 80s) version. you're looking for the blackfaced (enamel-finished 70s) version which are a bit difficult to come by anymore. they are from different decades and the guts/construction are wildly diffe...

"waxes and wanes " ...is probably my fav Cocteau Twins song: http://youtu.be/v-iOOsZHS6s I like the attitude (or lack of it) that prevails on this board. There are stretches when I'm too busy DOING recording/music to stop and talk about it. But for gear research, non-knucklehead opinions on new pro...

You are absolutely correct that original point of any compressor is to be an automatic volume control. And yes, in a software system or even an automated console, you can automate the output level of a track to get a perfectly controlled vocal track. But the reality of the outboard gear that attemp...

Cale - your drum mix is sweet. How did you process them? I was curious about that too - sounds like there's some heavy compression at work, that's ducking the ride cymbal when the snare hits. That adds an interesting motion to the drum part... Leigh - interesting how you change the perspective by m...

Re: D12 users. on the hunt for a good one - need your input.

ok - here's the deal, i feel like a lot of producers who i like (daniel lanois, ethan john, philll brown) use this mic on kick a lot. they get nice, unhyped, rich low end on their kicks. darker, less modern recordings to be sure but great sounding IMO. ... both seem to have a peak in the low end ri...

I don't know about a ready-made solution, but I've done that sort of thing with Max , and recently, with Max for Live (Max patches integrated with and controlling Ableton Live). Max has a learning curve, but the sort of pedal-tap interpreter you're talking about would be a great first project in Max...
