I would suppose tracking someone who is playing really well doesn't hurt on the mixing end either.

Another John Williams vote:
The Schindler's List soundtrack/score is really beautiful and tremendously moving. The Itzhak Perlman violin solos are pretty breathtaking and humbling in their emotion and musicianship.

I just made a string and pick purchase through Strings and Beyond. They have pretty reasonable prices and orders over $35 include free shipping. They have an excellent selection of strings too. I'm not sure if there are any bulk deals but Fender picks work out to .20 if not. Seems to be pretty Mom a...

Willie's version of The Maker could be in that thread about songs the change your life. Lanois and Willie played it on Letterman too with the dual-drummers. So nice.

Thanks for the details. I'm in the early learning-stages and it's great to get some clear step-by-step directions once in a while.

It should be noted that Wicked Game is not from the Baja Sessions. If I had to guess from the sounds and the album title/concept I would venture Baja sesh was recorded au natural.

Re: Chris Isaak guitar sound

I know I may be branded as an outcast for professing my enjoyment of Chris Isaak music, but hopefully I am not the only one out there. Does anyone know how to recreate the nice warm guitar sound he has on alot of his songs. I am thinking specifically of "I Wonder" from Baja Sessions. Just looking f...

I would think you might want to focus on placement and playing to balance your kit with your current mic. I would also think that omnis would accentuate your ceiling's early reflections as overheads. Probably would work better as a room mic. I'm just now building my short-ceilinged basement so my ad...

Yammertime: No, the problem is that you are having to work harder and harder to get a rise out of us! Wasn't Hammertime a dick for a while then dissappeared claiming never to return. But then he did return, claiming he was nicer now that he quit drinking and did indeed seem to be nicer. Now we get ...

New Calexico

Here's a new Calexico song from their forthcoming. It's a bit different from their stuff gone by. I saw them live for the fourth time a couple of months ago and they may be getting a bit more user-friendly, not that they've been TOO difficult. Joey Burns played a lot of steel string acoustic. Either...

I wonder if Ethan Johns uses the same setup. His drums on RA's Heartbreaker are fantastic---of course he's a fantastic drummer too.

I have no constructive criticism.

Just want to say I like the song a lot. The singing and arrangement are both nice.
