I'm gonna second the advice to read the Gervais book. Based on your questions I wouldn't recommend hitting nail one for a while. You should also visit John Sayers forum, its very helpful (lots of reading) Eventually map out specifically your goals and the following time, cost, building codes, resour...

If you're running a star ground with one leg for studio outlets and the other leg for everything else (lights,ac, ect./ wtih no iso ground) is balanced power very benificial? Is money better spent on a pwr balancing unit and having the standard two leg with just a safety ground and no iso ground? In...

Questions on a build for Rod Gervais

I'm hoping Mr. Gervais and/or any other knowledgable folks can help with some specific questions on a studio build. The space we'll be occupying is approx 35'X25'X11'. It was built as an iron works space and is completely open inside with no existing walls. There is no plumbing even and is pretty ba...

After some more digging it looks like the mics may be Shure dy45g's the transformerless precursor to the sm77. A photo shows the 3 pin cable screw assembly the dy45g uses instead of the XLR connection present on the Unidyne or 545. Anywho, some light on the matter would be helpful.

Shure 545 Allen Sides (Ocean Way) Mod

Curious if anyone knows the mod(s) done to the Shure 545's at Ocean way. Allen Sides mentions in a video about the Ocean Way drum recordings that the 545 are modded. Is it just the absence of the transformer, the common mod for the 57? Also, since they may be employing the same mics used on records ...

Nothing happens, but the post has been taken down and put back up a couple times and I bet you, like me, sent you cell #. Obviously this is something that would go in the first half day it appeared. The fact its being reposted is a giveaway for sure.

This posting (the CL ad) is fishing SPAM! Do not reply. I hit it up a week ago when it first appeared. Obviously anyone with 2 cents would respond tech or not and offer double just to snag it.

Note: the post gives priority to phone #'s (big hint)

I freaking hate these people

Both material specs are for 2" thickness. This blackboard may be a bit more user friendly than fiberglass, but I can't say with any certainty. Just for educational purposes how can over 100% be absorbed?

Found the info, Owens Corning Black Board compares to 703 as follows: BB 703 125hz .18 .17 250 .71 .86 500 1.12 1.14 1k 1.12 1.07 2k 1.03 1.02 4k 1.02 98 So the BB is better overall absorbtion, but the 703 is better absorbtion below 250 which would be a better choice for gobos. Thanks for the respon...

Absorbtion: Owens Corning 700 series or Acoustic Black Board

I was on the Owens Corning site looking for some info on 702 fiberglass which seems to be the best choice for gobo and panel absorbtion based on what I've read but then I saw the Black Board material. The black board is specifically noted for its acoustical properties and claims to absorb up to 100%...
