If memory serves, the HD24XR was a pretty decent unit. I haven't compared them side by side with a 24i/o, but would be careful about that cross grade.

I would wait with some serious new machines around the corner. Even if you don't buy one, the prices might fall on older machines.

The supplies (like int power) are raw supplies on frames. You would need to get a chassis, add breakers and fuses, wire it, and punch the holes for the big amphenol. You aren't building the supplies, since they are already built, but assembling and wiring them. As far as paying someone, I'm not sure...

I still use my dual 2.7 G5, with logic with great success. I have 4.5 gig ram wich helps a lot with the virtual sampler. Until I got an ensemble, I used a motu 2408 mk3 with an hd24xr via lightpipe with great results. The hd24 acted as a 24 in/out to my console. A friend tried to use a fireport with...

Hi, I went through this some years ago, and it made a substantial improvement for me. I ended up doing it twice, improving each time. What ended up being easiest for me (after building my own chassis out of raw linear psupplies) was to buy a nice, high current lab/bench power supply. I got it used f...

Hi I emailed but got no response so I'm following up here -
What kind of lunchbox are you offering?
I'm extremely interested and may even arrange for local pickup so you won't need to bother with shipping.

Thanks, Jeremy, for such a concise overview. I had investigated using a decca tree (and later abandoned the pursuit)for a drummer with a particularly large kit, and in my research, I thought I had found that the Neumann M50 was not a "true" omni. It's been a while, but if my failing memory serves, I...

... But when you start getting classy condensors......you will kill dynamic mics in any vocal or acoustic guitar setting even in a shitty room. Which there is no such thing as...since carpet padding and nails are free in the garbage. ... I'm not trying to be contrarian, but I can't agree with the a...

Hi, I think you are getting some great advice here and I wanted to throw a couple presto-logs on the fire. Log #1 - Don't get too tripped up on the room, learn to use it. that process consists of recording, making mistakes only realized on mixdown, and then changing it up. A bad room used well will ...

Someone buy this - I have an arsenal of amps, and my blackface vibrochamp seems to be the "go to" on most sessions. Fun easy amps to record.

Not trying to be a shill, I just love these things.

You may want to weigh the cost/size benefits of building a quiet computer vs. a quiet case, and which solution which be relevant into the future. As far as building a quiet pc, there are many dedicated sites on this subject, ranging from specific cases to fanless pwr supplies. I'm not being sarcasti...

Re: Pre v/s mic

Take this with a grain of salt because it came from a Musician's Friend phone-op...: a tube-pre is "better" to use than a tube-mic. Of course, he didn't further explain himself. I guess the reasoning is that a tube-pre is more versatile because you can run any mic through it, but a mic (without cha...
