I have been going through this as well. It may be worth it to get both, and use the firewire for mobile recording, or any portable situation. I figured I'd get the Metric Halo 2882, which I have used, and it is solid, but for applications requiring higher count, I'll probably go with a lynx aurora o...

You can look at the comparison from a pragmatic side, as well as a technical side. Pragmatic side: For lower track count and wider product variety, firewire will work. There are both very good and crappy implementations. Going to heavy track count, PCI is the winner. Technical side: I'm not a hardwa...

For what it's worth, I have a 440, but bought a pioneer consumer deck to save old reel to reels family tapes. You're welcome to borrow it if you are ever near San Francisco.

I know Peter Reardon of Shadow Hills Industries has been working on something like this, but I haven't spoken to him for some time. Drop him a line if you're interested, but bear in mind it will likely be pricey.

Hit me offline on this. Let me know what you've tried. I don't know of anything about that model that required specific software or drivers, which couldn't be installed later, then again, it's been a while. I really think 9.2.3 should get you going, then you can dl the specific drivers, but let me k...

If you find specifically what you need, I may be able to help. I don't think there was a special release for that computer, but I could be wrong. I think the last release was 9.2.3.

Let me know what you need and I'll send it to you.

Acopian is the way to go. Keep in mind that the TL072 op amps don't like to higher than 18v, and I think the voltage drops 1/2 v insided the console. I would go wayyyy overboard on the current draw, though. When I had a ghost, it wouldn't draw more than about 2.5 amps (I think, it's been a while) bu...

I use 2 19" samsungs - they have very little border around the screens. Any wider and they'd really get in the way of the speakers. I have them mounted on arms so I can position them as needed.

I dig the sony oxford limiter, but it's not free. I like it better than, pretty much anything else I've used (L2, UAD, Massey). I'm a bit of a fanboy for them at the moment, so take me with a block of salt.

I have always had great luck with Seagate barracudas as for the drive goes. I think most high performance "media drives" use these. Be forewarned that ide is on its way out (albeit gradually) and SATA is replacing it. I would think 80 GB is too small, and would recommend something more robust. Also,...

While I can't prescribe gear's application for another (unless I have 2 more beers), don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. I would disconnect the dead channel and pull it out, and swap it for a working one. It's eq and routing make it very handy, but everyone has their own flow, so see if it ...

The amp I'm using is a solid state McIntosh 2105. I'm impressed, very impressed by it. It is unbalanced going in, so I had to purchase some extra kit to make it play nicely with my other gear...

I'll second the power amp. I can't believe what a difference it makes. I recently replaced my good power amp with a great one, and now the ns-10's are my main monitors, where I used to use them to just balance midrange.

These speakers seem inordinately sensitive to what amp is pushing them.
