I think I told him to take two hours on it - Probably could have cleaned it up in one, but I wanted him to take his time and really get in there...

But yeah - Nothing unusual. Any audio repair can handle it.

I had a black-faced 642B that I had serviced at Midwest Audio in Arlington Heights, IL. They do most of the dealer work around here also... they made a black faced one? I thought all Orban gear was blue? lemme guess, the black faced ones are better? You could say that. Definitely quieter - And (IMO...

Not to mention that he was ostensibly the mastering engineer for this session, too. It didn't seem like he mastered anything at all, though: I mean, right from the start he was recording at -2db or so, and the finished masters (which were sent to the pressing plant!) have about three seconds of sil...

I'd narrow it down to maybe three choices so that you're not wasting as many peoples' time and so that each engineer has a higher probability of getting the work. Choose maybe three who have done work you've liked and talk to them about doing a sample track. Be honest with them and let them know th...

It's not - And the machines were picky... Fostex tapes (which may or may not have NR) wouldn't track properly on Tascam machines (which also may or may not have NR). And the Fostex machines were hard-wired to speed (15 or 30IPS - Not both). Not sure about the Tascams... Been a while. Best of luck. :...

Point A: I dig the MixCubes. Don't have 'em, but thought they made a great Auratone-ish substitute.

Point B: Just in case it was on the table... Using car stereo speakers isn't anything (ANYTHING at all) like "going out to the car" - It's not just the speakers - It's the car.

So as not to be flamed by the professional mastering engineers on the board, I must put in the standard disclaimer: You should never master your own projects.
That's very kind and wise, but this was even better and wiser:
less is most definitely more

NEED TIPS Coffee is less effective, but far less damaging than the 'caine. Seriously though (even though I was being serious) -- If they running off a rider, tell them to add a pair of stagehands (at venue's expense - "one or both stage hands should be intimately familiar with the house system" in ...

I just didn't know if there was such thing as too quiet. If your levels are below -30dB(FS)RMS and you're peaking below -10dBFS, then - if you really, really want to - you can tap it up a notch. But you don't need to. "Too quiet" -- One time (in the last 8 or 9 years if I recall) did I get a projec...

You should be spectacularly satisfied with your mix before you even start thinking about how to second-guess yourself.
