when I saw the pixies on their reunion tour, my complaint was the songs were performed almost exactly as on the CD. I agree, I go to see a band live to see how they've re-invented songs, created transitions and otherwise surprise me. Being in a band for many years, playing the same old songs the sam...

I'm down for volunteering Pete's space for a full flavored show and tell.

Otherwise, chief city is up for it -- we don't have tons of fun gear, but we have logic, plugins and a space to be loud.

Word.. it was fun! Real live gear porn (thanks Jim) and definitely a bit too much gear-talk for this weary head, but I do enjoy hearing how folks do their thing, techniques, funny stories, etc. I'll post some good photos of our space soon when I get a chance, but wanted to share with ya'll some soun...

if I can convince my band that we should skip practice (normally on wednesday nights), or maybe we come after, I'll be there along with 1-3 of those dudes, as we're all recording-types.

I love my 200B! It needs a good cleaning, but the pre's sound great -- definitely an improvement over modern 'no-noise' pre's.. I use mine mostly for pre's, although I've done some work to tape. Those inserts can be used as direct outs, depending on the cable you're using, you might have to pop it i...

What are those barrell things on USB/Firewire cables?

Quick geek question: I've always wondered what they were... fuses? Some products come with cables that have them on both ends, others none.. and they mostly seem to work interchangeably.

Is there any risk to using a cable without those things? thanks.

the other thing to take into account is screen size.. using a DAW with a crazy small screen can be quite a pain.

We are month-to-month, and no unfortunately we didn't get it in writing.. the landlord was a fast mover, and past our better judgment, we just sort of moved in and called the place a space. We've been completely cooperative and friendly with our neighbors. The cops never come, it's in Port Richmond,...
