Worst reason for a cross-post ever.

Re: Residential dual pane windows

Probably depends on your neighbors. You're likely to get plenty of structural transmission of sound (through the walls); so only treating the windows probably won't help that much. You could do an experiment by building window plugs out of 3/4-in MDF board and some insulation to see if it's acceptab...

Re: reel to reel / pro tools

I noticed that as well. Tracked drums to an 8-track reel-to-reel. I took the headphone out from the tape machine and ran it into protools during the tracking, along with the scratch guitar track. I later played the 8-tracks into Protools. Most things lined up fine with the scratch track--or close en...

Re: Brighter Drum Tracks

Yeah, I got a big jump out of synching the 002R to a Mini-Me. I think everything is pretty good now and will get better in the future. I found I didn't really need to do all that much eq'ing--a few dB cuts here and there made a big difference; as did taking the boost out of the kick I'd fallen in lo...

Re: Brighter Drum Tracks

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'm getting around on it. A replacement sample with the original snare, some EQ and a bit more reverb got it going alot better. Rolling off the lows on the overheads with some notch cuts and boosts got them more articulated as well. Added a little reverb for some r...

Re: Brighter Drum Tracks

Hey Andy, thanks for the input. I tracked everything through a Soundcraft Spirit mixer--and I think the pre's are pretty decent. The weak link in the signal chain was definitely the hard disk recorder I was using at that point (a Korg D1600); decent converters but nothing great, and only 16-bit. The...

Re: Optical into Protools LE

Basic, but:

Make sure the optical cable is connected from the output of the HHB to the input of the 002R;

You can check to make sure a little red light is shining out the end of the cable from the HHB.

Re: Brighter Drum Tracks

Yeah, no room mic on this session unfortunately. I've just finished tracking drums for a friend's band with a room mic and I've noticed that--instant brightness control. Oh well. Reamping is a decent idea. I may also try routing the tracks back out through my Soundcraft board to try and adjust the E...

Re: PT export help needed

Not familiar with Radar, but I've exported files from Protools ok to a friend mixing in Cubase I think. The trick is to make sure all of the wave files being exported have the same starting point. For example, if there's a lead track halfway out in the song--the actual wav file for it should extend ...

Brighter Drum Tracks

I've recorded my band in my home studio over the past 4 months or so. Most of the tracks are done and have been working on the mix lately. It's an in-the-box set up with the drums tracked at 16-bit, 44.1 kHz with six decent mics: SM57 snare, MXL 601 x-y OHs, Sure Beta 52 Kick, Sennheiser 603 rack to...

Little Labs makes a combination DI/Reamp box that is pretty cool.

Re: The Thread About Pro Tools (Mac OS X)

Are you using an external Firewire hardrive? This can cause conflicts with the 002R. The solution is to get a separate PCI firewire card interface. The 002R and drives each need to be on they're own bus. Separate ports on the back of the Mac share a common bus.

Re: Transfer Data on Pro Tools

You can also export all the individual track. Got to the audio regions list, highlight the tracks you want to export, then click the menu bar at the top of the window and select "Export Selected As Files". You can then choose the file type. If the session isn't huge, the files should all fit on a si...

Re: Is anyone using a Word Clock with a Digi 002?

This issue was addressed in previous posts. General consensus seems to be that a good internal clock is the best of all possible worlds, but the clocks in the Digidesign hardware aren't all that great--so adding a good quality external clock to them can improve things. And if I misunderstood your qu...
