Re: when DO you compress low end?
you still need to reign in the dynamics of it so it's even. Do you do that at the source - ie: the kick track/channel or at the the drum buss? Or for bass guitar track - on the individual channel or the mix buss? it would seem to me that maybe you'd want to not have your mixbuss comp reacting. Dyna...

Sony v600 since mid 80's. Don't love or hate them. .. just used to them, but never make critical eq decisions on them anyway, ..more for listening down, check fades, quality control etc. Want to check out the Grado line and some Sennheisers. 7506 and v6 are a bit too bright for me, but I used to lov...

The certification is pretty easy. It's mainly just showing that you know how to use the apps linked here https://www.apple.com/itunes/mastered-for-itunes/ under "mastering tools" but you can substitute the Sonnox plug on a PC. I'll pm tomorrow with the contact info.

Re: Mastered for iTunes (Windows need not apply)
If I'm reading right folks making music on Windows platform aren't invited to the party. In lieu of not having a Mac, you can use the Sonnox Toolbox http://www.sonnoxplugins.com/pub/plugins/products/codec/codectoolbox.html to audition. Even then, you're supposed to get approved by Apple for Mfit re...

Also check out local agents who cover small biz. Some liability policies will cover 50 to 80 grand in equipment, and i've seen these policies go for around $550 a year. .. and as mentioned Joe Montarello has been around for a while http://www.spars.com/tag/joe-montarello/ gl

"We go all the way back to the original master recording and capture it completely. Every detail, every tiny drop of emotion, is authentically reproduced. Which means, for the first time in the history of recorded music, you?re really hearing the artist?s performance." Wait,..didn't Neal Young say t...

It'd be good to look into getting liability insurance that will help protect you and any business property. There's companies that specialize in this type of insurance where the yearly premium can usually start around $500 and go up depending on your deductible and the amount of coverage you choose....

Re: floor underlayment vs sheetblock etc
This week at work I've been installing a floating hardwood floor. The underlayment we're using is just standard issue stuff you can find at any hardware store, and looks more or less like a 1/8" layer of compacted dryer lint with a plastic facing. It claims to have an STC rating of 66 and costs $50...

I designed a friends attic mix room and ran 1x stringers to support 4" rockwool between joist with 16" centers that still left room for an air gap/ventilation between the abortion and roof. This worked really well for sound. I wouldn't bother with the sheetrock unless you want it finished for re-sal...

I used to sell on ebay quite a bit, .. but haven't in a few years. Selling fees have gotten up there since. I sold a Neumann 149 on there about a month ago. Cost $250 in fee's. I crossed my fingers and luckily any grace period for someone making any kind of claim has passed.. wipes sweat from brow.....
