OK, here's a couple of To P or not to P type questions. 1. Pro Tools needs to see a Digidesign interface. Can you let it see an mbox or something, but use a different interface for IO? LE and MP are only going to look at one interface at a time. Now, there are some folks that have gotten two 002 to...

This is the consensus considering what I've been told by many with inputs 1-4 on the 002: Yes, the gain knobs still function no matter if you choose line or mic input. It's best to use inputs 5-8 if you're using external equipment or instruments but it is OK to use 1-4 if you need to. You just have ...

This is a dumb question to ask since it's pretty much listed on the website, but how many mic pres can be digitally connected to the M-Audio 1814 for recording at 96k? Can 16 pres be hooked up via lightpipe? Also is there any way to rack mount the damn thing? (I swear I'll stop asking dumb hardware...

Regular Guy wrote:Does the Digi 002 really not do ADAT in at 96k? If so, that's lame. Fucking Digidesign and M-Audio are conspiring against recordists everywhere I swear to god.
I believe it's top mark is at 48k which doesn't bother me really as that's what I normally record at anyway.

An important caveat on this point: There are some things that LE can do that M-powered can't. This is not true. they are equal across the board in features. M-powered is actually more flexible because you have a wider choice of interfaces to choose from, whether absolutely tiny or large. Actually, ...

it does have a high learning curve compared to other software. Not my experience at all. Sure, the basics aren't difficult but some of the more advanced features are a little bit of a task to grasp. Most folks I know take longer to truly get Pro Tools than other DAWs. Truth be told, I just found a ...

It really all depends on where you feel your going with music. Is it going to be a career for you? Do you plan on bringing sessions you do into other studios? Do you plan on working freelance in other peoples studios? IMHO, answering yes to questions like that would give you good enough reason to ge...

I swapped the opamps in one channel of my Dual MP. Replaced TL072 with OPA2132. The OPA2132 is a little pricy at $5 a pop from mouser. I got these as samples from ti a while ago and haden't earmarked them for anything else, so in they go. I have not done any tube swaps yet, planning to order some J...

Typically, yes. It will depend, though, on what version of the 192 you have and what cards you have in it. You should be able to jack in outboard effects, though.

Is the goal to keep sound out that is being created on the other side of the wall - like so you can track in the same room as the musicians? Or is the goal to dry the sound of the room a bit so you can have a better focus on your mix? The Auralex stuff does the latter, but there's some cool stuff f...

Well, right now I'm looking for what's out there aside from constructing something on my own. While I'm sure I could build something with a decent amount of time, I really am not the best with such projects. How about this: http://www.realtraps.com/gobotrap1.jpg That certainly could fit the bill. I...

With us buying a house and all, I don't think I'll be able to afford to make it down there.
