castagnettes :E seriously, i think they would work. and footstomping and clapping. or snare played with brushes + bassdrum and washtub bass but i don't even know what americana really is or how it should sound like recording sounds cool to me, pretty live sounding, nice guitarplaying too the vocals ...

at least you got TDK PRO SM60 brandnew off amazon in the usa, lucky you over here in germany, no new sealed type 2 cassettes are available (other than ebay, for ridiculous prices, like over 100$ for a 10pack of maxell xlII) there are a few basf/emtec tape NOS custom made cassettes though type I cass...

Maybe cheap chinese ribbon mics. If you got enough clean Gain. Other than that, there are plenty of funky old dynamic mics.. lots of ElectroVoice mics are cool, the 635a would be cheap and cool i think it's more about the mics, placement, playing technique and recording/production approach than it's...

what mics do you use? i like that bright but gritty acoustic guitar sound on the second tune. drums sound great too on the first track

very nice recording.. nice music too
cassettes can truly sound better than most people think
sounds way better than most music you hear on various message boards where everything sounds the same and is extremly .."fake" sounding with too much treble
it just feels good and musical

tascam 424 portastudio, monotron delay and pronomic ribbon mic (same as nady rsm4 i think, used for all instruments except for monotron) and some instruments
