Re: What are You Mixing Down to?

I use Wavelab a lot whilst tracking, or CEP if overdubbing, and will mix to 2 track within CEP, also, all in floating 32 bit, which is essentially 24 bit in real world terms. For dithering, I bounce back to Wavelab 4.0 and use the Apogee HR algorithms -- a beautiful way to dither before burning to C...

Re: ever get that empty feeling?

Interesting thread re. the "empty" feeling we all sometimes have, and the idea that buying just one more piece of gear will somehow stave that feeling off for a while.......So sad.......because it's TRUE!! I love hunting for gear, on Ebay or my local candy stores. In fact, sometimes it's as much fun...

Re: Vinatge Warmer

I, too use Vintage Warmer on almost everything, from quite subtle multiband settings, to big time tape compression effects. I really like thier "funky kick drum" setting, and not just on kick drums. It's surprisingly "real" sounding, not just another plug.

Re: John Mayer - what the frig?

I read somewhere that he's using the Roger Linn Adrenalinn filter/beat box thingie.....I, too like the sound but find that somehow I haven't much time for the rest of Mr. Mayer's presentation.

Re: Acoustico Electrico Recorded Dead of Winter in Minneapol

Thanks, Frank..... Yes, they do play out under more of a alterna-roots type guise with bass & drums, but not regularly....outdoor festivals are fav's. I'm hesitant to name them as I posted these mixes more to solicit critique of my dubious talents as a mixer rather than anything else, but I certainl...

Re: slightly trippy zen guitar rock

Hi.... Hey, i dug yer stuff......listening to "Wash Me Away" right now, and it very much reminds me of mid-70's Randy California (vocals and guitar), which is by no means a dig, as I feel Randy was a supremely underrated talent, although his songwriting rambled a bit in later years. I liked your "in...

Re: Acoustico Electrico Recorded Dead of Winter in Minneapol

Hey, Thanks for the kind words, Nick.....although with a nick like Liar, uh, Nick.....are you suggesting that everything you wrote is somehow, uh, insincere? I will operate under the assumption that you are genuine, although I'm not sure I'm deserving of the praise nonetheless....: ) I will say I ha...

Re: Acoustico Electrico Recorded Dead of Winter in Minneapol

Aw, c'mon......

Not even one comment, nasty or nice?

I put a little effort into the mixing of this -- the source material was a tad uneven, having been done in the spare moment here and there, track by track. Lots of cleaning up, tweaking.....fun practice. Happy tracking!

Acoustico Electrico Recorded Dead of Winter in Minneapolis

Re: WTB Stereo Spring reverb

Check Ebay from time to time for a Tapco 4400 spring reverb....It's two channel in/out which I prefer more than mono in/ stereo out. They go for cheap (got mine for $50.00) and they have a cool preamp stage that can be overloaded for very cool effects. It can also sound very clean and has a very smo...

Re: Minidisc Recorders

I use the Sharp Mt-877 .... very reliable for on-sight recording, bands and such. I use binaural mics if stealthiness is an issue, or if not, and if I'm permitted time for a more elaborate setup, I'll bring a decent stereo pair of small condensers such as Oktava 012's and my FMR Really Nice Pre/Real...
