Thanks guys. It's my favorite in the series so far. Slade is a great guy, and quite smart. I hope to keep interviewing both musicians and producers as the series progresses, so def subscribe via iTunes if you think you may want to hear more. I publish about one a month.

78 rpm record transfer in NYC?

I'm dying here... I need to transfer a 78 rpm disc that is an historical piece from my corporate archives. One of a kind. I need a place in NYC area that can do a quality transfer and where I can stay with the disc while the transfer is being done. Any suggestions?

SM7 windscreen

So, yeah, I'm an idiot.... Could someone explain to me how you get the windscreen off an SM7? For the life of me, I twist and toy with it and can't seem to make it happen.

I watched an old Cat Stevens performance on VH1 Classic the other day and was distracted throughout by how filthy his acoustic guitar was... haha. That may be my own problem, but I've never seen such a smudged mess on TV before in my life. Like the axe had participated in a pizza party.

Latest gear you have abandoned

Inspired by the 'latest you have acquired' thread.... I bought a Tapco Link.Firewire 4x6 and it was nothing short of a total hassle. I still do much better when I stick to old fashioned recording... running cables from device to device, than trying to place everything (recording, tracking) within a ...

402 VLZ3

Sick of full gear recording of simple two-mic podcasts which I do often, I purchased a Mackie 402 VLZ3, a two-input tiny little board. Really happy with it. Has the power and sound you expect from Mackie, and has freed up some serious space on my desk.

Never liked my TLM-103. Never liked the Neumann BCM-104 either. Was unhappy with my Bluebird too.

I avoid using my laptop for multitasking at all costs. I like standalone, single-purpose machines. I like having the CDR as a tape recorder, if you will. I don't want to run my board into a PC. I burn on the PC only after I master something that was already mixed down to the CDR.

I personally went to recording school (liberal arts music/recording degree) in the 1990s and feel like I didn't learn shit... I mean anything... until I was out working on my own making records, reading and experimenting, picking people's brains, etc. I went to audio school in the 90's too and feel...

I really like my HHB BurnIT. Have had two over the last 10 years or so and it is rock solid IMO.

The trend I see is established bands cutting basics in a proper studio, then doing all their overdubs at 'home,' keeping only the drum tracks from the original sessions. Note seeing it a lot, but enough to take notice.

Damn, my 80G is 6th Gen. The 240 mod only works for 5th Gen video iPods.
