Nice drumkit to trade for Studio Time in Manhattan

Yamaha 5-piece Maple Custom - very, very nice sounding. Includes cymbals and heavy-duty hardware. Would like to trade for studio time credit, no immediate needs. You must have some form of ProTools and I would prefer the studio be in lower Manhattan. If you're understocked with gear, I could possibl...

Re: Best headphones for tracking REALLY Loud Guitar Amps STA

I've recorded with a variety of solutions to this problem. It is vital to actually be in front of the amp for dynamics and feedback playing, I totally agree there. I'm not a big fan of the sound of total isolation headphones, though. My tracking preference is to place the cabs in an iso booth and st...

Re: Mic review..AKG D112

I love the D112 but it IS a specialty mic at least in where it shines. As such, it is an excellent value. It is to the kick drum what a 421 is to toms. As for Al's choice of positioning, I agree although I've always found the rule to be true that, the better the drummer, the farther from the beater ...

Yeah, he sent me pretty extensive paperwork. The units look like they're in great shape and all buttons/pots feel good. Now to get 'em racked up.

Re: Auditronics mixer - know anything about these?

Thanks Joel. On the strength of your post, I've purchased two of the channels on ebay. Any tips you've got on racking/modding them would be helpful. I plan on using them as a front end to my home ProTools rig. I don't trust my own techspertise in this area, but have a good guy in the neighborhood th...

NYC area - tech/rack builder?

This is very much related to the previous post I just made. I have been shopping for some vintage mic-pre's recently and most of the good deals involve channels that have been pulled from a console. Should I decide to grab a couple of these, anyone know a good tech/box builder in the NYC area, who c...

Auditronics mixer - know anything about these?

I've seen a few of these online where the channels are being pulled from an old (60's?) broadcast console and sold off. I know that it's a british company and the mic pre/eq channels I've seen have Jensen input transformers. Claims are that they sound like API's. Anyone have any first hand experience?

Re: this may seem stupid (di box question)...

Good news, NewYorkDave... I think that whole "reamping" thing (which was sorta tr?s 90's anyway) has gone the way of close-mic'd-super-isolated drums. You know- that technique that RUINED drum sounds in the 80's. Yeah, I say commit! (Or play it again, Sam.)

Re: this may seem stupid (di box question)...

Yeah, I've been tracking rock bands for almost 20 years and I usually always DI and mic the bass. I'd say that 85% of the time, during mixdown, I've ended up just using the DI and half the time that I've used a little amp, it's just to apease the bass player.

Auratones

I love them. I can mix without them but prefer not to. The left one just blew. The foam around the cone is disintegrating. Can I get these re-coned? Can I get replacement speakers? Can I get a witness?
