Where exactly do you line up a 2-beep?

You know, that quick tone that accompanies the number two on a film countdown. I know that it goes two seconds before the start of the spot, but do you measure from the beginning of the beep or the end of the beep? Being that the "beeps" that I use (sampled from the reference film) are almost a half...

I'm right there with you on having to boot the 002R for monitoring, plus, the way my system is set up, I've got to boot up power to my whole recording rack to power up the 002R. So I use a Soundcraft Spirit mixer. It's got a couple of stereo channels, one of which I use to monitor the 002R's main ou...

For straight editing/playback, you'd be surprised how "low you can go". I worked for years on a Beige G3, running 24 tracks (although at 16bit/44.1) via ProTools LE. Personally, I feel the most "bang for the buck" model out there right now would be an 867 or 1gig dual processor G4. Noisy machine but...

Yes, that's how I got mine. No problems. Just be sure and record your authorization code. I was used to going to my disk shelf for this and had a bit of a headache finding my new code for a re-install.

Yeah, I've got some great players here in NYC as well who I'd love to bring along. I'm afraid the budget just won't allow it though.

They're not to be the main attraction, just playing during cocktails and maybe dinner.

There's this New York thing where "New York" stuff only happens to you when somebody is visiting from out of town. Like, you can live here for five years without so much as getting your bike stolen, then Mom comes to visit and some crackhead appears from nowhere to mug you. That kind of thing. Anywa...

Champs rule. With a good stompbox and a well placed 57, you can make 'em sound HUGE too!

Brian
I think you just make it part of the first track, then push the start time up to the beginning of the real first track.

Yeah, I've been fine with HD to LE, as well. I'm actually hoping that MP will be the same piece of cake. I do seem to remember early talk (when MP first came out) about not all plugs being compatible or something. That's why I was hoping for some real first-hand experience. Since both machines are m...

Creating a hidden track on a CD

Hello, 1994 just called me... But yes, a client just asked me to master her CD with a hidden track on it. I recall a few different ways to do this but the one that I found least annoying was on an old Wilco CD (I think) where there were say, eleven tracks on the CD and it looked like eleven in your ...

Jumping between ProTools LE & M-Powered

Is anyone doing a lot of work where you're going back and forth between ProTools and the M-Powered version? I'm curious to know just how practical this is. Sessions open with all automation? What about plug-ins? I have nearly all of the BF plugs and Waves Diamond (iLok). I mainly just need to be abl...

One of my new tricks for such problems is Waves RenBass (or MaxxBass) on a send. I usually have to notch EQ the result to take some honk out. I've also used their C4 successfully to warm up low end too. I'm also a big fan of pumping just about anything back through my Twin Reverb, especially drums a...

Follow up

Okay, so I got one of these Behringer Nanos and I've now got it working as a remote for my Trak2 preamps. For $45 this is my best deal of the year. I was really hating having to navigate menus with buttons to change settings on my preamps. Now I've got rotary pots for gain and hi-pass filters and bu...

Need very "client-friendly" studio in lower Manhat

I need to block out an afternoon to record a few voice-overs, preferably in lower Manhattan. Must be client friendly as in: 1) large control room with comfortable seating for at least three plus engineer; 2) clean and professional looking. Although I will be recording VO's, I do NOT want a tiny, dea...
