Oh - don't forget to record room tone! Supply this as a separate file. I like to see at least 30 seconds of tone from each day of recording, though more is not unwelcome - I once had a project where the engineer recorded only one 10-second room tone for the entire 4-day session. It was rife with foo...

Be sure to document EVERYTHING on your copy of the script. Time code at the top of every page and at the beginning and end of chapters, as well as session breaks (day 1, day 2, etc). If you are doing punch-ins, mark them clearly with a double hash mark: It was a dark and // stormy night. Mark all qu...

Large diaphragm condensers of all polar patterns have been used in the live environment for decades, so the issue isn't the mic. Adding a gain stage (outboard pre) won't help, either - it's still going to pass through the FOH console's mic pre, so any benefit is lost. In fact, it may sound worse. Fo...

The Pro 37 is most definitely cardioid, NOT supercardioid.

My friend used an HR-16 for many years and did a lot of great stuff with it.

Then it burned down his house.

For the record, the 603 S is S ub-cardioid, not cardioid. jt Wow, not only did I not know that's what the "S" stood for, but I don't think I've ever heard "sub-cardioid"! I can't find anywhere that I'm seeing the 603S described as sub-cardioid, I only see cardioid, I'm surprised it isn't written th...

john schumann will be back. he is currently redesigning his old circuits including the PLL as well as the rest of his line and is working on prototypes for each as we speak. they will be available for purchase next year. That's swell and all, but what about the whole stealing-his-customer's-pedals ...

I don't think the D6 has any versatility at all. That thing has the most aggressive smile curve I've ever seen on a mic. Mega hyped lows, highs and almost no mids. It speaks one language: metal. I haven't found that to be the case, at all. In fact, I have had a D6 in front of, behind, inside, next ...
