mults are TOTALLY fine and used all the time! Actually, using an iso transformer could alter the sound much more. Remember if it sounds good, it is good...

I love my 184's. While I don't think they are better than other SDC's, when they are right, they are amazing. That being said, the oktava mod pair for about the same price is hard to resist.

I would look at used 184's or oktava

for that use, I would consider the Presonus EQ3b. Surprisingly good for 100bucks...

you only need something that does 44.1. You bypass the converters by going into analog ins on the new converters and then out of the digi outs (spdif or aes) then into to the digi in on the burner. If you use aes, you need a word clock connection too.... i think.

Are you talking about recording the whole ensemble with the pair? How big is the group and room? I generally prefer spaced pair...

I did NOS mullards in my NTK's. Sounded different, for the better. Nicer mids. BUT, it will not turn it into U47. My ntks still have that big 12 dbish bump, which make them useable on some stuff, but mostly 2nd tier mics...
