Alright, I have so many disclaimers for these samples and photos, but let's just leave it at, my strong suite is not as a drummer (especially when playing to a click) and this song is very much a work in progress. After trying drums myself, methinks I will be better off getting a friend who is a rea...

Pretty much to run a mono room mic for drums through it. That's pretty much all I've tried so far, but I like the way it sounds smashed through that comp. -Bret I should add that I heard about this comp in a post by Mr. Joel Hamilton, which was what led me to buy one. He likened it to a poor man's ...

I got one of these Alto HP6 units, and really it's pretty damn nice. It was getting a little hum this last weekend, but I think I have some a/c noise issues in my studio that are causing that.

I have nothing particularly useful to contribute, other than I was able to try the Glynn Johns techique last weekend (thanks to this thread inspiring me), also using Oktava MK-012s as the overheads and I was pretty damn happy with the results. Previously, I had used the recorderman technique, which ...

The chinese gardens are always nice if you can find a break in the rain. Portland Art Museum, Crown Point (out towards Multnomah Falls), Pittock Mansion, and if they are into wine you could always take them out to the willamette valley to hit all of the wineries. Since it will be Christmas, there ar...

So far, the purchase of an SE Electronics Reflexion Filter on my behalf for future voiceover session time. Next one on the list is $80 for a 4-song demo for some high school kids. I put a bunch of free time on that. But that's out of three paying sessions. The rest of the stuff to date has been my o...

To get an increase of 10db over an 8 watt champ circuit, you need an 80-watt amplifier, all else being equal. Halving the power cuts the output by 3dB. All else being equal, a 50-watt marshall will be only 3dB quieter than a 100 watt marshall. Edit: found a link to back me up: http://forum.ecoustic...

Wow, you guys are awesome. Lots of great advice here. The thing with this band, is it's a pretty noisy band by nature. Now that I think about it, a lot of the energy comes from the drummer, who hits pretty hard and likes to ride the crash. I am thinking that is really the volume to which we all seem...

I might plug in to our other guitarist's 4x12 this week and see if it helps any. Although, I am hoping it will be loud enough through the 2x12, especially if I elevate the cab a little. If not, I can always split the signal like Kayagum suggested, I have a couple ugly solid state amps I could use. A...

Okay, here's the update. Got the Magnatone back from my local vintage amp tech and it was deemed as needing about $300 of work just to be made safe to play. Outside of that, he said the volume and overdrive would not be strong enough to use for a rock amp. Once I got it home and tried it out, I agre...

Hey, thanks for all the advice. I'm always thankful I have the TOMB to relay my silly questions through. I have not tried it with the full band yet, but when I have it to 10 on the master and pre volume it just doesn't sound like it's going to compete with a 100w JCM 800 and ampeg SVT through an 8x1...

getting more volume out of a tube amp
I got a new head recently and I absolutely love the tone. It's the best sounding amp I've ever owned. The only problem I can foresee is that the maximum volume, I think, may be just a little too low for the band in which I'm playing. The amp is sort of a custom/frankenstein amp, with 2 6L6 power tub...

Decent gate for Logic Pro?
I'm not digging the default gates that come with Logic Pro. Can anyone recommend a good gate plugin in AudioUnit format?
