Hey workshed... how do you like those active Wharfedale's? I went with the passive 9.2's and have love every minute. Those things are built like tanks! Tanks that sound good. Whoa, and here I am replying months after the fact... totally missed your question there! The Wharfedales are awesome for th...

Does this space work?

So I found a building in town here that I can lease for $700/month. It's a main floor of an old, small house. Location is great and accessible. I want to use it as dual purpose office space for my main business, which is web design and graphic design. I have two contractors who will work on-site a c...

On the other hand, what I THINK is the new power cord (coming out of on the bottom of most of the interior pics) only has a black and white wire with no green wire and the white running directly to the chassis. I don't think that's all there is too it, though, or else I don't think your gfci would ...

Sorry...I hope it was clear (but I don't think it was) that I was only suggesting using a ground adapter as a test. Wouldn't want you to actually use the amp that way. Taking it to a tech is easy and a safe bet, but if you can verify it's the ground cap by plugging it in with the adapter, then you ...

I'm with Rod for sure. Probably the famous death cap is leaking. If you have one of those gray plug adapters that lets you plug a three prong cord into a two prong outlet, try using that and see if the GFCI still goes. It probably won't. Ned Thats where I was going, but if its hooked to other equip...

Looking for Tube Amp tech in Portland

Just picked up a Magnatone amp from 1948 or so and need to get it looked over/tuned up/find out what impedance it's running at, etc. Who do y'all recommend for a tech around these parts? I used to take stuff to Jeff at Old Town, but I heard he doesn't work there any longer.

Thanks,

-Bret

Magnatone tripping my GFCI

So I bought a crazy old circa 1948 Magnatone head today at the Seatac Guitar show. It's 150 watts, 13 tubes, 12 input PA Head. I was hoping to find a way to make use of it for guitar. Like an idiot, I took the guy's word for it that it was in working condition and didn't bother to make sure it was p...

The case of the disappearing reverb

So I have this old Rosac solid state guitar amp, which I actually love. I love it because the spring reverb gets this perfect surf instrumental sproing, and the tremolo has this thick presence that is almost cutting in nature. The only problem I've had with it is that the reverb tends to stop workin...

PS...I love those shitty super old solid state amps! I had a Jordan bass amp that was assembled just like yours. Best sounding bass amp EVER, but pitifully quiet. Looks like you have to run 1/2 of the power cord pretty much all the way up to the input to get to the on/off switch anyway, so I'd just...

Not to hijack this topic, but is it as dangerous to add a three-prong plug to a solid state amp? I have this amp that I'd like to add a three-prong plug to: http://www.workshed.com/transfers/personal/rosac/ If it's something I can manage myself, I'm willing to give it a try, but I also don't want to...

I don't know which "version" is better, but the versions I've seen have to do with the dials & labels: One version spells "Presence" as "Presense". Rubber/PVC knobs. I have this particular version, and it's great, clean or dirty! And I love the "Presense"- very X-Files! Another version I've seen ha...
