Re: Question about RCA 44-BX and various models

Wow, that's a nice stack of mics! Have you talked to Clarence Kane about them? Having worked there, I would think he might have some info regarding the model classifications? I would be curious to know if there are any functional differences between the models, or if they are related to body styling...

Re: machine room...

I installed a quieter fan in my Radar 24, and that was enough to justify not needing a different room for it here. If it's just the Radar, worth some investigation.

Re: fader setup for 500 series preamps

There's two that I can think of. One is the Purple MFTwenty5, a 20X5 all discrete mixer in 1RU, that lines up with the Sweet10 rack in terms of spacing, and has a P&G fader pack as an option. The other is the Speck viaFader Disclaimer: I helped design/develop the MFTwenty5 system, so of course I thi...

Re: Help: Matching Dynamic Mic to Preamp

I believe that Dan (Kennedy, Great River Electronics) is changing to a different winding structure on the input transformer with the MP series pres, so in addition to the impedance changing, you are also getting a bit of a gain shift. Reflected impedance from the amplification stage after the input ...

Re: Help: Matching Dynamic Mic to Preamp

Matching of impedance is not the way that designers/engineers think about signal flow any longer (since the 60's?) Instead, a concept called bridging impedance is used. Here's the rough of it: The source is designed with a low (ish) output impedance, the target is designed with a high (er/ish) input...

Re: Beyerdynamic m260

To my knowledge, United Sound Services does not service the M500, or the M260 (based on prior correspondence asking, and also later looking for parts :D ). They do service any current Beyer ribbon mics (M130, M160, the newer TG ribbons), but they do so with replacement parts, they don't do reribbons...

Re: Beyerdynamic m260

I like them a lot.

Make sure they are in good working order. I've reribboned a bunch of them, as beyer no longer services them.

For $300 each, you want to know they are in good shape.

Re: Toft ATB Master Module upgrade - Help Please?!?

I asked a friend, the original faders were alps.

If the P&G faders are the right throw length, they should be able to fit. The fader should connect to the main board via a header, so you will likely need to figure out what wires go where, but it should at least be doable.

Re: Aiight, let's talk broken shite, and other outstanding work

Broken gear is a never ending moving target. In the last week: Rebuilt Lexicon PCM60 (all new caps, new ram corrected the freaking out it was doing) Fixed Orange Tiny Terror( loose internal connector, that made it seem like it had a bad tube) Got Wurly 200 back up and running (speakers) All ready fo...

Re: Tempo Shock

I have a good friend who turns out really high quality tracks (produces, engineers, plays drums, guitar, bass). Hung out with him for a few days, and it felt like he spent more time in the coffee shop across the street than he did working (an exaggeration). Constantly taking breaks (10-15 minutes), ...

Mint condition R84.

I purchased new, made a few comparisons, and that's all the action it's seen.

Re: Beyer Mic repair

For the Beyer ribbon mics, they still service the M160 and M130, and the newer ribbon mics(RM510?, TG V90r), but no longer service the M260 and M500 ( I reribbon a lot of M260 and M500 at https://repair.ulrigg.com). For the microphones they do repair, they swap the internal motor/assembly, rather th...
