The thing that kills me about the 002 is how bad the pres are. The ones on the MBox (every iteration I've used) are actually fairly nice. The 002? Pretty bad. Luckily outboard takes care of that, and the d/a converters are acceptable to my ear. You get what you pay for. I kinda see the mbox as an en...

Re: question-- only one firewire port?

Hey. I have a Gen 5 iMac with two firewire ports. I always had my 002 hooked up to one, and my external hard drive hooked up to the other. I'm considering getting the newest iMac that just came out, and it only has one firewire port. Would there be disadvantages to running the 002 "through" the fir...

I had CD Poster Shop do duplication on a record I recorded/produced/released. I'm more than happy with their results, and the short-run prices are hard to beat. They're also really responsive both before and after the sale, and their support dept. really knows their stuff. You place your order, and ...

By modded, do you mean replacing the stock trafo with the TAB Funkenwork one? Nope - I mean the one where you gut the transformer. Its mentioned on the board in a few places, but this one: http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=32897 seems to be the most useful (as in it actually discusses ...

I used them all the time at the radio station I used to work at. SM7s were literally the only mic in each studio. They were each either flat, or with the bass rolloff turned on, depending on which room you were in. In the air studio, the rolloff was on (if I'm not mistaken), but in the production st...

Re: Best MP3 encoder out there...?

I've found that for easy of use, iTunes is just fine - IF, AND ONLY IF you change the default settings. The defaults are 80kbps mono, 160 stereo, filters out bass frequencies below 10kHz... I've found that a custom setting sounds just as good as any LAME encoder I've used at similar settings. Here's...

I work with a band who's guitar played owned one for a while. Just the Tiny Terror head, and we ran through some Marshall 4x12. We recorded a few songs for an EP with his '72 Custom Tele reissue going through it. It roars pretty nice. Now, I'm not completely happy with this mix (mostly the compresso...
