and if you stick a contact mic on the chest of the drummer before you shoot him, you can get a really sick bass drum sound too. i shit you not. I'm really anxious to try this technique, but I have limited knowledge about and access to guns. What kind of gun should I use? Does it have to be an expen...

Re: Are Loops for Candy Asses?

I was just messing around with a very old version of Acid, which deals with stringing loops together to create tracks. I love my old Acid program. Sitting on the there for hours on end was on of the catalysts that led me into engineering. I think loops can add significantly to a song's structure an...

i like music. and i don't think anyone owns a melody. a Nobody owns a melody. You can whistle anything you want to. You can play anything you want to. But, someone, somewhere, who thought of that melody before you did, just might (for a certain period of time) own the exclusive right to market and ...

A little bit silly

It looks like Coldplay may be guilty of copyright infringement according to the law, and we will see for sure how it turns out. But doesn't this whole thing seem a bit silly? I understand what laws are, but come on. It's not like Coldplay recorded the same Satriani song and sold it on their album. A...

Thanks, JV. That advice helps.

I always ran into an error recording and playing back from my firewire drive (error -9131), but I'm resolving that issue right now. Just had to change the partition map on my drive.

I am recording onto a partitioned internal hard drive. I have 24Gb free at the beginning of the session. No plugins, no other programs running. I setup r...

Back to the songwriting comp: do they get to take over copyrights of all submissions? What is the submission process like? I am curious how - and why - they have that weird little side competition. Of course they take over the copyrights. I think my friend just had to submit an online applicaton an...

FWIW, there is an AI songwriting 'competition' (believe that it is rigged if you must) and the winning songs are performed karaoke-style by the last two finalists. Unfortunately we never get to hear all the reject songwriting attempts that were submitted. I think that would be interesting. My buddy...

I am needing a couple pairs of studio headphones. If you have some laying around that you wouldn't mind parting with, send me a PM with a price. Thanks.
