Has anyone ever had the desire or inclination to balanced the inputs? Surely that'd be nice/possible?
You would likely have to do that externally. I cant see a way to cram the circuitry inside the chassis.

tascam 38 is pretty portable..unlike many other RTR machines.. couldn't you just take it to the drum space and track through it? yea the digital to tape back to digital might give you some problems..if you have drum bleed on other tracks for example that won't be good.. the other setback is you're ...

As both a producer and consumer of such styles I think that the best way to record it was figured out 30 years ago....reverb and delay. The contemporary slick sounding "death" metal is crap.

I do know from personal experience that gorilla glue has a breakdown voltage below the B+ value of 6L6s. It will melt, burn and actually spatter all over the place kind of like if you leave fork on your plate when you put it in the microwave....cleaning up pasta sauce off the ceiling of the oven. Th...

Theres an ongoing discussion in the long thread there about what the active ingredient is and how to extract it or source it from other suppliers. We've had many storms where I live so my only internet is phone right now otherwise I would post the summary myself. Apparently ppl have had success gett...

Done! Soldering the decoupling caps with heatshrink wasn't the most fun but it's worth it, I guess. Now I just need to align the machine. I scored an old TEAC YTT 1144 from '82 for almost nothing. It's sticky shed of course, so I'll have to bake it first... Psst.... Forget baking. Look up "Nu Finis...

Re: The evil damage what's been done

I ranted somewhere on here (edit: here ) about liking used gear more than new because I don't fear damaging it whilst rocking out. And yet, it still hurts when I damage something used. The other day, I knocked a 2" dia. ceramic skull candle-holder offa monitor stack, and it bounced against the plex...

Is there a single frequency for these disparate mains voltages or do those fluctuate as well?
I have no applicable advice for this situation other than a generator/deep cycle battery combo, but I am interested in hearing the solution.

You should probably post it on youtube and make it private ( if they still let you do that, they're always changing things)

Man, I *wish* that I could find a 234 or 238 for cheap. I'm using a tascam 38 right now, and I'm finding it difficult to stick to just 8 tracks for what I'm doing. I use 4 tracks for drums, 2 for guitar, bass gets one and that leaves me with one left for vocals and leads. The problem is that what dr...

Digital *is* very convenient. Not that I'm trying to talk you out of or into anything, but if your space is a small 1 bedroom apt am I correct in assuming that there is no drum kit? Meaning that you're recordings for the time being are notes and compositional demos rather than something meant for re...

Ummm, you will unequivically have to perform a full Calibration after doing the Jim Williams mods. You just changed the entire gain structure!

I have been told that the formulation ATR makes is actually even higher than +9. +12 or something, I gotta check my sources...but the point is that it in no way resembles 456 whatsoever. Its good stuff, but I doubt there's a "stock" machine out there that can saturate it. SM911 is probably where its...
