Re: Home studio noise reduction solutions?
Has the machine been serviced?
Do you ever print high eq to tape and then roll it off in the mix?
I use a 1/2 16 and I print more highs to tape this is noise reduction in a sense because you are turning down the noise floor.

Mastering in portland
Does anyone in the Portland area do inexpensive mastering? Bands ask me about this all of the time and I have only used the bigger mastering studios in town. I would love to find someone to send these bands to.

Does anyone need some tt cables?
We have extras, 26 of the 3 ft tiny telephone cables to be exact.
We are asking $3.50 each. If someone wants all 26 for $80, we'll pick up the shipping.

Crossover for the NS-10?
Hi all
Does anyone have a schematic for the NS-10 crossover? I have seen the mod for taking the bump out of the NS-10 but I'm not sure if that is the complete crossover.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kyle

Evan
Buying the RNP would greatly improve your sound. You will be amazed at what a nice pre amp can do. This would be a great next step for building your studio.

Re: MXL Mics
I like them. I think that they are the best of the cheap mics. I would buy them just to give them the Royer Mod. The capsules are pretty decent, but the components are not too good.

Re: How do you record an acoustic?
If it's just vox and acoustic I like to put one LDC about three feet out from the acoustic and about three feet above the acoustic, inline with the sound hole. Listen for a sweet spot. This doesn't work for everything, but sometimes it's just right.

Hi Rob It's Kyle from Panther Fact records, we meet last year. I'm a friend of Matt Lowery's. I really liked the way the you spoke about home recording last year. You were the most focused. I think that it would be cool for you guys to touch on some of the tricks that you use at home. Talk about how...

MS Decoding question
Hello All
I was hoping that someone could shed a little light on this subject for me.
Can I build one of these decoders? Where would I find a schematic? Can I buy a pre made decoder, or can I just use my console? I am very interested in the mic technique any suggestions would be great.
Thanks

Re: drum advice for 8-track
Mono drums are great, esp when working with an eight track. If you are doing a lot of overdubs and moving the tape back and forth a bunch, I would recommend puting the drums on one of the inside tracks. Tracks 1 and 8 are outside tracks and they take the most abuse as the tape runs in the path. I tr...

Re: Tips on recording a 410 amp?
If it's a guitar cab. Put the mic in the center of the four speakers and about 2 to 2.5 feet out, move it to and fro until you find the sweet spot. This technique will sum all of the speakers and you will get a full bodied sound, depending on the amp of course. This is a technique the Jack Endino sh...
