Re: How do you make a capacitor-discharging tool?
A screwdriver works pretty well. Just keep your hand off the metal.

Re: Lomo Valve Mic
While I have never used any mics, or heard of any comments on mics, with the Mojave Audio kits, while they're probably a cool thing, comparing them to the U67 or M49 is absurd! These mics are made with high quality parts and designed by Dave Royer. The capsule is a very close match to the U67, acco...

Re: Huge, incredible sounding records.
Tchad Blake is one of many many engineers on the record, but he mixed all of it. Its the self titled second record, Sheryl Crow.

Dave,
I couldn't agree more. That album is amazing and Tchad took her songs to a new level. The whole album is solid, unlike her later work IMO.

Re: Kick Drum
I am primarily asking for miking techniques since I figure it starts at the mic.[/quote] Remember, it starts with the source. If you get the kick to sound good on its own, the right mic will make it sound even better. Drums are the most difficult instrument to record that we encounter. There is no m...

Re: Mixing to a computer
Thank you!
All of this advice has been great.
I'm going to research the hell out of this!
I'm not interested in doing any mastering, but I am interested in getting 24bit files to mastering enginners.

Re: Kick Drum
What kind of heads and batter does he use? Do you like the sound of the kick when you are in the room with him? I've used some of the Audix stuff before and it sounded like the kick I was micking. Each drum and drum head has it's own character. Fighting those characteristics can make your job diffic...

Mixing to a computer
Hello all We have a decent analog studio (we love tape) and we have been thinking about mixing to a computer. Right now we mix to a CD burner, (this is our weakest link) but an engineer we know has suggested that we mix to a format that allows for 24 bit depth and allows us to make non-destructive e...
