I had the smaller 400f, and I thought it was amazing. Also amazingly buggy and problematic, which is why I sold it. I don't think the 800 has the same difficulties. I've used lots of great pres, and I thought the onyx pres were fantastic. Not boring, not hyped, just good. Plenty of detail, but it wo...

Firstly all the aforementioned pres feature discrete op-amps, while Peter's feature the NE5532 IC opamp, which is not to be scoffed at. Indeed. I pulled open two Quad 8 eq's the other day (I wanted to see how cool the opamp/trannies must be), and sho nuff...nothing but NE5532's. It's one of favorit...

Had great luck this weekend with a mono overhead, too, this weekend. Man, that mic could have been the whole drum sound. It was nice have a 57 on the snare and Stapes SD cond. on the floor though. Basically the "three mic" thing, but with a 57 on snare instead of another sd condenser... Kinda hard g...

Yeah, I actually don't hear too much compression on the early stuff. Seeing him live just acoustically kind of confirmed it...lots of years recording, I guess you get better at singing with compression...

I never wanted to admit it, but I noticed a pretty big jump from hosa-style whatever cables to Mogami and even Planet Waves. Not to mention, they're way more durable. May want to try www.redco.com, as you can select the cable and connector choice, and it's still cheaper than Mogami list at local sto...

So far, the main problem with the MacBooks is all the software needs to catch up. I don't think any DAWs -- with maybe the exception of Logic, since it's owned by Apple -- are compatible with the MacBooks yet. FWIW, I'm pretty sure Apple has announced that there won't even be Logic for mactel until...

One track at 88.2, even with reverb, shouldn't be that dramatic. How much RAM do you have? That's one less expensive way to get more performance. Also, check to see what your latency setting is, and whether or not the motu has a dsp mixer (i think it does) that will allow you track with much higher ...

Hi there,

Make sure you've enabled the driver in the audio menu. Unless you run the assistant, it'll probably default to the computer's native i/o.

Good luck...

I always spend $2000 without doing any reasearch whatsoever. You can't blame Apple for your own oversight. The intel macs were announced last year, and if you're a professional using a mac, you ought to have known that MacWorld was happening. It's just silly to thing that buying a computer the day ...
